My family is very affectionate. My husband's not so much. It weirds me out when I'm with them, though I know it's mostly cultural. But he's super huggy and kissy with Baby Y :)

They both are, but my mom is extra affectionate. She loved to kiss my kepala a million times when I was growing up, and now I find myself doing that to my lo.

Nope, not affectionate at ALL. I can literally remember only two times that my mom and I have hugged (one time was when she was dropping me off at college, and the other time was on my wedding day). And I can't remember ever hugging my dad, although I'm sure it must've happened when I was little, right? Maybe not...

We almost never say "I love you" either. We're just not that kind of family. It's SUPER OBVIOUS that my parents love me and my brother, though. They're very caring, giving, helping, thoughtful, etc. We definitely FEEL the love, even though it's never explicitly stated.

So coming from my prudish background, it was a shock when I was first introduced to my husband's family and they wanted to hug me and kiss me. I was all "WTF - don't touch me!" I'm still not used to it! haha

My entire family (aunts, uncles, grandparents, etc. ) is super affectionate. There are long hugs, kisses and a ridiculous amounts of ILY's. There is constant hand-holding. I think my sister and I are the least affectionate, and we're still pretty touchy-feely. I know I've had friends who either love or hate coming to my parents house over the years because you will get hugged and kissed when you walk in. There's no avoiding it. :)

My dad wasnt affectionate either, because of his cultural background. He has changed a lot though and now he does say I love you and all that, but he never said that while I was growin up

My parents are somewhat affectionate, but it's a little forced. I've definitely seen many other families that are more affectionate, and I kind of wish we were like that. Also, even though my parents claim to love DH "like a son" they are still very formal with him -- hugs are rare and "I love yous" are nonexistent.

my parents NEVER were. I knew they loved me, but never got "I love yous" (that I remember).

for some reason, though, as soon as I moved to college my Dad got very affectionate. hugs, and he'll noogie my head if I'm over there and he walks by.

No, not really. Hugging, that's about it. I call it 'tough love'... no emotion. My dad did get teary eyed when he dropped me off at college during my freshman year.

I would not say they are super affectionate. But def hugs and kisses and love you lots are said! I dont live near them, so when I do see them its def about getting in hugs and what not more. I cry everytime I have to say good bye to them now and so do they.

My dad always does this weird thing where he pulls me into a side-hug with one arm and grabs my belly with his other hand and calls me "the Baby" or "the Redbird" in a silly voice. He didn't do it last time I saw him since it the first time I'd seen him since being pregnant (I was 16 weeks, so no real bump yet). I wonder if he'd do it now that I have a big bump and if he'll do it post-partum (though obvs not until I'm recovered!).

Both are VERY affectionate, though their parents weren't. My husband's mom hugged me when she met me. His dad hugged me goodbye after we were married (and HIS mom kissed me on the cheek to say good bye after our first meeting.)

My dad is very affectionate. He always hugs me when I arrive, a few times while I visit and a hug goodbye with a kiss on the side of the head. <-- love him! My mom is semi-affectionate. usually just a hug goodbye.

Yep :) Unlike most Korean dads, my dad was very verbal with his "saranghae"s (ILY in korean) and hugs, kisses, pats on the butt. :P Ironically, FIL is more the non-affectionate type. DH hardly ever remebers him saying ILY or hugging/kissing. What I love the most is that my dad embraced DH and hugs/verbalizes his affection and DH LOVES LOVES LOVES IT! :) It's inspired him to initiate the affection toward his dad as well.

(Both our moms were/are very affectionate).

My mom always tells us she loves us and hugs us and was always affectionate. My dad is/was another story. He is a typical Korean man - no emotion, no affection. He's NEVER told me he loved me and has never hugged me - the only time he hugged me was when he gave me away on my wedding day and he was forced to! LOL. When the hubs and I announced that I was pregnant, my mom burst into tears and hugged me right away. My dad? He shook my hand. He SHOOK. MY. HAND. HAHAHAHAHAHAHAH...Cracks me up.
