No. We do tons of activities and play dates and outings. I don't have any concerns about her socialization at all. She'll start preschool at around 3.5 part time.

We did this at 2. Just one day a week for socialising and for encouraging her speech development.

She's now doing 2 days a week at 3, and we'll up it to 3 days when she's 4 for preschool!

I put her in preschool to socialize. Just two mornings a week. I probably wouldn't have done it if we hadn't moved. Also, here, the Government funds 15 hours care a week once they hit three years old, so it is tempting to use at least some of it when it is offered.

I am thinking about it. In part, I work the schedule I do so we don't have to have much childcare... But I want him to be in a slightly structured environment at some point. At this point, he's 1.5, and he has a regular sitter for about 6 hours per week. We also go to lots of drop in play and stuff like that. I think sooner rather than later I need to figure it out

My 2.5 year old will start preschool in September (he'll be 3 in November). It's only 8:30-12 Tues/Thurs, but I think he's ready for the socialization. He's been home with me or my mom since he was born.

Not just for socialization- also so I get a break and she gets some time away from me and listening to teachers. My almost 3 year old does a 2-3 hour drop off program at the gym one morning a week. She gets plenty of socialization at activities that we do together and play dates, but I think the separation is good for both of us. She will hopefully start part time preschool in the fall at 3.

If I WOH full time, LO would be in daycare versus a nanny. She will be 3 in October. Since I SAH, we are starting preschool 2 days per week in August. The following year when she's almost 4 we will probably go up to 3 days per week. Personally, I think that's plenty and we stay busy with other activities and playdates. LOs don't need to be with other kids 40 hours per week to be socialized.

Yes, starting my 2 year old next month 2 days a week. We've been lucky enough to have family or great babysitters watch him the past two years. But he loves other kids and current activities (gymnastics, playground) don't seem to provide enough interaction.

Yes. I SAH and T started daycare 2 mornings a week (usually 3.5 hours) at 6 months. It's been great. She was the youngest. The bigger kids love her. I got sick more often than she did. We are on summer break.

My two year old will go to "school" for 3 hours, 2 mornings per week this fall. I wouldn't say I did it for "socialization", though that's certainly a benefit. She gets plenty of socialization from activities we do together (classes, playgroups, etc.). I put her in school (which is not very different from a good educational daycare at this age, IMO) to give myself a little break to run errands without having to drag kids a long!

@bluestriped bee: Yeah, we will do 3 days a week. I work full-time and his grandma will watch him 2 days a week but I think him being around other kids and being exposed to stuff- the good, the bad, and the ugly, will make him more resilient.

Kind of, but it was a choice between him staying home with a nanny and him going to daycare (ie we were paying someone for child care either way). He's a really social kid and we didn't find any great nanny candidates who knew of nanny groups/play groups in our area. All the day care providers have said he's really doing well with other kids and likes to be around them a lot. BUT, if it was a choice between me being home and being able to set-up activities or sending to daycare, I'd have kept him home and been diligent about setting up play-dates and organized activities in the neighborhood.

Nope, we had / have a playgroup that we visit on a regular basis but my oldest didn't go to any sort of daycare or preschool until she started preschool / kindergarten at almost three years old (this is pretty standard in New Zealand).
