Just two mornings a week. I probably wouldn't have done it if we hadn't moved. In part, I work the schedule I do so we don't have to have much childcare... But I want him to be in a slightly structured environment at some point. At this point, he's 1.5, and he has a regular sitter for about 6 hours per week. We also go to lots of drop in play and stuff like that. My almost 3 year old does a 2-3 hour drop off program at the gym one morning a week. She gets plenty of socialization at activities that we do together and play dates, but I think the separation is good for both of us. She will be 3 in October. Since I SAH, we are starting preschool 2 days per week in August. The following year when she's almost 4 we will probably go up to 3 days per week. Personally, I think that's plenty and we stay busy with other activities and playdates. I wouldn't say I did it for "socialization", though that's certainly a benefit. She gets plenty of socialization from activities we do together (classes, playgroups, etc.). He's a really social kid and we didn't find any great nanny candidates who knew of nanny groups/play groups in our area. All the day care providers have said he's really doing well with other kids and likes to be around them a lot.
