I love the Christmas season and being cozy by the pretty tree with a cup of hot chocolate. And I generally love Christmas Day with my family. But this year I'll be 9 months pregnant on Christmas and my motivation right now to go get a tree, decorate, shop, wrap, etc, is not very high. I'd love it if it were DONE, but the doing it, not so much. I am hoping I'll feel differently once we actually go pick out our tree this weekend. </p> <p>Also, my MIL pitched a fit when we said we wouldn't be traveling to them for Christmas (because apparently wanting to be near my own care providers and hospital at 37 weeks is "ridiculous") so I somehow ended up offering to host them for a big Christmas Eve dinner. I am kind of dreading doing all the prep, cooking and cleaning. The house is all decorated, most of the presents have been bought, we've seen SANTA twice already, we're hosting a holiday party Saturday for about 50 people. I'm loving it. We skipped putting our tree up because DS (15 months) would probably knock it down or pull it down on himself, or I would have to put up a baby gate and he would cry to get to it and that seems cruel. </p> <p>I have a lot of shopping to do for nieces and nephews, which ordinarily I don't mind but I'm just very short on time/chronically behind at work. And it's our year for Christmas at my in laws, which means a horrific travel experience both ways (a 3.5 hour flight, then a short flight on a tiny plane, THEN 3 hours in the car to get there). And we get along "ok" but I know nothing will be babyproofed, my son is going to sleep terribly the whole time we're there, I have to order a bunch of food for him and diapers and stuff because they live so far away from a store (vs. when we go to visit my mom, she has it all ready, which is so nice)... it's just always a stressful experience for me. </p> <p>I am looking forward to going to church the next 3 Sundays before we leave for Advent to try to get some Christmas season cheer back. </p> <p>And we live in south Florida so it doesn't feel like Christmas AT ALL! </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/are-you-pumped-about-the-holidays#post-2658554 Tue, 29 Nov 2016 11:35:40 +0000 snowjewelz 2658554@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>Kind of...? But now I am looking at it more as a season rather than a day and am really excited for December with my kids. Thanksgiving was comparatively chill! Actually driving to see family was like something out of a horror movie but once we got there it was very relaxed. Now I'm ready to be off work but not ready for family reunions, work parties, potlucks, wrapping gifts, lugging tree from farm, sorting old toys to donate and all the other tasks I associate with the season. I'm OK with it. In years past I had all this stuff planned, but this year I am not doing anything special. Oddly I have gotten most of my shopping done and ordered cards, we did the Santa/train ride Thanksgiving weekend so we have already done a fair amount to get ready. Over the years I've begun to associate the holidays with stress so this year I am trying to deprogram myself and create new associations. </p>
