We had some when we transitioned to a big bed too. They really did correlate to times when she had less sleep and was overtired. It’s been two months know and she hasn’t had one in 5 weeks but has been sleeping much better!

My boys share a room and so when LO1 would have them, I would pick him up and take him to another room. I never felt like I woke him up though, even doing that. We could be in the bathroom with the light on and it didn't matter. It just had to run it's course. I did find that saying "It's just a dream" would make him escalate, as did most other things. But saying "It's ok. Everything is ok." was safe.

So I spoke to the dr at their 2 year appointment about their night terrors (they both have had them now).

She suggested making note of when they fall asleep and when the night terrors happen. She said you might notice a pattern that it happens like 2.5 hours after they are asleep. She said research shows the night terrors happens in a certain cycle of their REM sleep cycle. She said if you know that it happens at a particular time after they are asleep, you can go in there a slightly arouse them (not wake them). Like rub her back or something. She said it might help.

I haven't tried it yet since *knock on wood* DD's night terrors have stopped for now.

@bluestriped bee: my son does this when he's sick or having the off night waking. Its like he is confused as to why he's up and not ready to be up.. it's the weirdest thing but often he cries for a bit in our arms and then stops when we put him back down. I know it's a tiny chance it could work but just thought I'd throw it out there. I also wonder if maybe 2yo molars are happening?

DS is about to turn 3 and has probably had a dozen night terrors so far.... Most of the time we are unable to wake DS during a night terror. Sometimes, carrying him into a room with a light on works...but not always. I find it really makes no difference if you wake them or not - but it isn't always possible to.

DD went through this phase when she was around 3. Waking up in the middle of the night screaming and crying. At first I didn't wake her either but DH started waking her by taking her to the bathroom and turning on the light. That actually helped her calm down faster and went back to bed.

I woke DS up. I think it helped. I'd turn on the light, carry him into the bathroom, and start washing his face. He would wake up in a few minutes and relax, then go right back to sleep as if nothing happened.

Yeah, you aren't supposed to. Basically, the recommendation is to keep them safe and let it run it's course. Is she getting enough sleep or had other changes in her life? Our 18 month old did this for a few weeks just after she changed daycare and we moved. It was horrible I feel for you :crying:

Yeah you shouldn't. Turning the light on I think is okay and can help.

DD has been waking up kicking and screaming. We thought it was a nightmare but last night her eyes were open and she was still kicking and screaming. She was inconsolable for about 20 minutes. I think it's night terrors. It's just so weird to think that she is not awake and she won't remember it in the morning.

She is kicking so hard that I'm afraid she's going have bruises on her heels of her feet.

I did pick her up (which I read can make things worse).

We did just transition to the toddler beds so I'm sure this is part of adjustment to change. Though, she before we converted to the toddler beds she would do this, too. Instead she would kick my ribs while we let her sleep in her bed.

Twins just turned 2, yesterday.

Oh, since the twins sleep in the same room, I'm afraid she'll wake her brother. Two awake toddlers makes for a long night. :meh:
