Especially in middle or high school because the enrichment opportunities and college preparation seem awesome in certain private schools. That said, I think any school is a lot about what you put into it and how you impart the value on education at home also. There is a really great private school in our neighbourhood that many of our friends' kids go to -- the academic and arts/sports is excellent there, so it is certainly something we are considering! I have nothing against public school though and went through it myself. The school district we live in is terrible. I work for said school district so I know first-hand what a shoddy education the kids get. I believe in the democracy of public education, but with a test-focused school culture, students here aren't being prepared to be independent, creative and critical learners. Especially since NCLB even the best public school teachers are bound by a failing system, IMO. I'd prefer something more progressive but even in the private schools this can be hard to find, so we'll see. Ultimately it will depend on what the best fit is for dd. </p>
