Between work and various other obligations, my free time is at a premium, and lately I have really valued my down time. Proactively seeking new friendships sounds onerous and exhausting. I guess I am lucky that I already have a lot of excellent friends. When I am on maternity leave, though, I do plan to seek out some new moms groups. Most of my friends are about a 45 minute trip away because we moved a few years ago. I can see them after work, before I commute home, but I would like some local new moms to hang out with while I am stuck at home with a newborn. I do want to have close friends that are being formed right now, but I'm having a hard time developing those. I moved far away from hometown, so lost touch with high school friends, and none of my college friends have kids yet, so different lifestyles going on. In the four years I've lived in Canada, this is the first where I've felt that I have my own friends. I'd love to have more time for great and deep friendships, but it's been tough to do that while juggling everything else. But it's something I really want to focus on in the next year!
