I won't say I'm super laid back, but I am way more lax about food for her than I was a year ago. Most of the relaxing has come from necessity since she went through a pretty wicked picky eating phase. I strive for a 70/30 balance and try to make sure she eats "clean" most of the time and not a ton of processed stuff, but it's hard. She's a HUGE carb monster and while I totally let her have carbs, I do try to limit them so she has room left for protein and the other good stuff.

@MrsRcCar: that's the one treat my LO has, too. But I have to hide them, because I only give them about every other week. But she loooooves them and literally calls them "treats". She also loves her vitamin gummy, and she has one of those every day.

She also discovered marshmallows, which I also let her have occasionally. But I keep them hidden, because as long as she can't see them in the pantry, she doesn't ask. And then the random occasion she asks for a treat, I give her a marshmallow.

I am very aware of what my boys eat. We have multiple food intolerances/allergies/autoimmune issues. My boys very rarely get packaged processed foods because of the issues we have. However one processed snack they love and get more then I care to admit are fruit snacks. We buy the kind that are a whole serving of fruits and veggies. Still doesn't make me feel like mom of the year when they have more then one pack a day. My boys love fruits and veggies and lean proteins. I am hoping it continues.

I like to think I'm in the middle I guess? She eats plenty of packaged things but loves fruit and raisins and eats plenty of vegetables (though, a lot of the same ones, still working on variety). I try to be reasonably strict at home so I don't have to feel bad when we are out and I give her whatever is easiest.

There are certain things I just won't let her have because I don't want to constantly fight her over- like DH gave her OJ and then every day she was asking for it. And most candy I won't ever give her straight from the package- that way she won't spot it in the checkout line and demand it.

I'm somewhat strict. LO1 doesn't generally eat dairy, so I would have to go out of my way to find dairy-free sweets and desserts and I'm not going to do that unless it's a rare special occasion. LO 1 is 2.5 and has never had:

-mac and cheese
-grilled cheese
-ice cream
-cake (except the couple of times I home made one for birthdays)
-cookies

She doesn't like chicken nuggets. Doesn't like pizza. Doesn't eat cheese or yogurt. Has never had a goldfish cracker or an Annie's bunny (they both have cheese).

She goes crazy over grapes and rotisserie chicken though! And bread with butter. And mayo. And pouches. So it's definitely not all healthy.

I don't want eating to be a control thing, so we stay laid back. Everything in moderation but we don't keep lots of unhealthy snacks around either so the choice isn't there all the time.

Not overly. My kids eat tons of fruit and veggies and protein, and not a ton of processed foods. Besides that I don't stress. I don't buy much junk food, so what we go eat tends to be small amounts. We also don't drink soda, ever. But I'm careful not to make anything forbidden or overly tantalizing, so nothing is off limits.

I'm also really aware that kids eat the stuff you feed them. I went to buy yogurt for my baby, and I couldn't believe how much sugar was in it. So instead I fed her the same unsweetened stuff we eat, which she loves. My older one was horrified the first time she saw a chicken nugget, and still won't eat them. Basically (unless they're like me, and desperately picky due to sensory issues), kids eat what you feed them. Not all of it, certainly. But generally.

I'm laid back - I want to teach her everything in moderation. She is a great eater, and while she definitely has a sweet tooth, she equally loves yellow peppers hahaa.

I am laid-back. I am pretty unhappy with the amount of processed foods/snacks that he has, but he is such a finicky eater, that I let the pressure for food - any food - to be consumed take precedent most often.

I just try to give DS as much home-cooked food and organic fruits, veggies, and milk as possible. He hasn't had candy or fast food yet, but that's really only because we don't eat it ourselves! As he gets older, I'm more laid back.

I think we are pretty laid back!

I offer healthy snacks and he likes those so it works. He does get goldfish but lately prefers strawberries or raisins or cheese instead. I make him a smoothie for breakfast because he loves it and I throw healthy stuff in it.

Today for lunch though he had strawberries, cheese and some soup (from a can). Oh and a couple Doritos because he saw the bag 😬😬😬

He's also allowed treats. He doesn't get juice because he loves it when he has it at a party and I think he would be addicted if I allowed it at home!!

For the most part, yes. He eats gold fish and chicken nuggets way more than I'd like, but I just decided it wasn't worth the nightly fight, and he LOVES fruits and vegetables, so I make sure he has plenty of those on his plate. He gets an extra-special treat if he finishes his dinner, and that can range from a mini cupcake to a small cookie or a bite of ice cream. His breakfast is a peanut butter blueberry waffle and yogurt, and snacks are usually a cheese stick or piece of fruit (although occasionally could be an English muffin or cinnamon bun, if we've made them). We don't give him juice or soda, though.

Not really. She eats relatively well, and enjoys fruits and vegetables just fine. We don't buy sugary cereal, but she oddly prefers oatmeal, anyway. Snacks are things like yogurt, dried fruit, pita and hummus, almonds, carrots with PB, granola, etc. She's certainly allowed treats and we like to bake together. But we don't offer evening dessert outside of special occasions because she tends to crack out and delay bedtime by a million hours. I am glad potty training is done because I feel she was turning into a swedish fish on uppers. I guess the only thing I'm strict about is that we don't make separate "kid" meals; shes offered what we're having.

I don't think I'm very strict. Xander always gets veggies (and often also fruit) with his meal and he has to finish dinner if he wants a treat after (which isn't every night, just when we have left-over treats from something). Snacks are usually things like crackers and hummus.

For meals and snacks, are you strict about what your LO is allowed to have? Or do you feel like you are pretty laid back? How do you think your LO's eating habits compare to other kids?

I think I'm very laid back but on that note, my kids eat pretty similar to all the kids I know IRL. We make sure our kids attempt to eat healthy foods, and considering their ages they do pretty well. Going through a picky phase with LO2 but we will get through it.

I let them eat packaged snacks, Goldfish, dry "sugary" cereal, and they eat desserts. They will also ask for strawberries or celery for a snack, so I'm fine with where we stand, for now.
