You can also raise her mattress -I use a small travel pillow and put in where her head is and it really helps with the coughing!

I use a cool mist humidifier and can tell the room is "moist" after 2 hours - I usually check on her before bed and you can tell a difference as soon as you enter the room

@PrincessBaby: Another idea, before bath time, turn on the hot water and let the bathroom fog up. Then take your LO in there when you give her a bath. I'm sorry H is not feeling well.

@Alivoo01: @Smurfette: yeah, big oily stain on some of my favorite onesies and outfits ;( she had her firs cold at 3 months so by the time she got her 2nd at 11 months id forgotten and ruined another favorite onesie. Ugh. I still use it but under a crappy onesie, or on her feet with fertile pajamas (she pulls socks off, I didn't want her sucking it off!)

@PrincessBaby: just an FYI, the baby rub stained LOs clothes. I had the little remedies one. I put it under an older/crappy onesie I didn't care about or on her feet (in sleeper pajamas)

@PrincessBaby: I thought so, too, but they make one specifically for babies! It has a pinkish lid and definitely smells less potent than the regular stuff.

@PrincessBaby: just make sure you get the baby kind, not the regular. Also, for some reason, it seems to cut down on coughing if you slather their feet in Vicks and put socks over top. Crazy but it seems to work and can't hurt. Hope H feels better soon!

@rrachael: I will check out vaporub today...The humidifier I bought was Vicks brand, but the stuff that can be put in it to help with congestion said it couldn't be used on kids under 2. So I never explored the other Vicks products bc I assumed whatever the active ingredient was in it wasn't safe for kids under 2, but I am going to check out the vaporub! She sounds so terrible when she nurses and has to breathe totally out of her nose:(

I felt the same about our humidifier, but it did seem to help my dd sleep better when she had a cold @ 9 months. Another thing I found to help a lot was Vicks baby rub .... I put a little on her chest and on her feet and her breathing was noticeably better overnight! Hope your lo feels better soon :)

@PrincessBaby: I doubt it's room size - our LO's room is large too. (It was originally designed to be the master bedroom.) We have the Crane Cool Mist Drop Shape humidifier, fwiw.

@coacheswife123: @rattles: Hmmm, okay. That's weird. I see the steam coming out but it just doesn't feel like anything's happening. Her room is on the larger side, so I'm wondering if that has anything to do with it. It's been on a couple of hours though...Maybe it'll just take a while?

I can feel a difference in LO's room when I use ours. I can see the vapor coming out, and it feels humid. It's noticeable enough that I put a towel under it so as not to damage the floor.

My LO has her first cold:( I shouldn't complain bc she is 10.5 mos and we're lucky we haven't had to deal with it before now, but I'm still sad for her:( I went out and bought a humidifier bc it seems that there's really no medicine that you can administer to a baby under 2, and I set it up in her room. I saw that all of the models stated a particular room size, and there was only one that said it was for a larger room so I went with that one. I put it on the highest setting, but when I go in her room, nothing seems different to me? Should it? Should the air feel more moist/damp or something? It just makes me wonder if it's doing anything....
