I've laid a lot of different types of flooring in my lifetime :) My husband is pretty handy too and can fix most things around the house. Slowly but surely, we are learning how to keep the place up and running. I hope to consider myself handy after living here for a few more years.</p> <p>@mrbee: You should check out Construction Kids at the Brooklyn Navy Yard. They teach kids hows to use real tools in a super safe way and they build awesome things, like skateboards and guitars. I can build websites, and that's about it ha. I'd love to teach my kids to be good with tools though, since it's such a valuable skill as an adult. A friend of mine is pretty handy and wants help with web stuff, so maybe I'll barter some sessions with him so I can learn the basics.</p> <p>One thing I know for sure though: our kids love to make things! Whenever we build furniture, they're always trying to help out with the screwdriver. Pretty much doubles the amount of time it takes to build things, but usually we can find some part of the project where they can help out.</p> <p>Are you or your SO handy around the house? Are you teaching your kids to be handy too? </p>
