Yes, but now that we commute on the train it's a bit easier. IF we can get a seat we both totally pass out. Then once we get in the car to go pick up the kids from daycare, we have to have a burst of energy to last another 1.5 hours until bedtime. Pickup, home, dinner, play, baths, bed. Then after they're both in bed (usually by 7) we clean up, pack lunches, and then move on to whatever other chores we have that day. But in general we pretty much crash on the couch around 8 and totally zone out for the rest of the night.

For us, we're both people who thrive with productivity so as long as both of us are going at 100%, we both push through. We're both nonstop until both kids are in bed. Some nights one of us will be extra tired so the other will do the cleanup and lunches while the other rests. Some nights we're both so exhausted that we give ourselves a break... then at 10pm we say CRAP, we still have to clean up and pack lunches. ;)

I'm usually tired but I have enough energy to make it through to bed time. I get home at 5pm and DS is in bed at 7pm. In this time we have dinner and bedtime routine. If I'm really pooped then we read, DS loves his books.

Then after bedtime I usually watch tv with DH or do a craft and fall into bed around 9:30.

Yes, I chase around 5 year olds all day at work, so by the time I get home, I'm exhausted. However, on the days I pick up LO from my moms, I've had a little while to rest in the car and have some quiet time, so I'm ready to play with him. After he goes to bed at 8pm, I usually crash on the couch and don't really move for a couple hours ;) I would blame it on being pregnant, but really, it's the only time I get to sit all day for more than 30 min at a time and I'm going to enjoy it!

@mrscobee: I work from home one day a week and it helps a lot. I feel great after a home day and actually enjoy my daughter and the time with my husband on that evening. Its partly the lack of commute (I have a daily 50 mile round trip) but mostly the lack of interaction with other - difficult - people!

I wake up wiped out and it goes downhill from there!

In the evenings I'm emotionally drained. I manage two difficult services with needy clients and an horrifically challenging team so by the time I get home I have nothing more to give. Physically, Im ok; I can clean, I can cook, I can walk the dogs but dealing with whining, tantrums or screaming at bedtime - give me strength.

I am wiped out. Anyone work from home at all? Curious if that helps with energy level... I would have thought that would help at least a little, as commute time could at least be saved. Hoping to WFH a little after LO is born.

Being pregnant and working all day makes the night tougher with LO. Last night, we played in the park and then went home to do bedtime routine. I practically fell asleep on the kitchen island while he ate. I felt better after some food, but forgot to plug in my phone to charge when I went to bed. Exhaustion levels are high for me these days.

I feel like I do a pretty good job of being energetic and present with LO during the very limited time we are home together before he goes to bed... but once he goes to bed I'm a wreck. I walk downstairs and see the bottles and dishes and work bags and feel completely exhausted by the thought of getting it all done! (I always do though... but its not fun!)

No, but only because I get to sit and relax all day at work! I mean, not really relax like on vacation but you know what I mean. Not chase around an 18 month old and deal with tantrums all day. So by the time I pick him up I am excited to see him and have plenty of energy for nighttime routine. Also, he goes to bed at 6:30pm so that def helps!

I'm pretty wiped out by the end of the day. I'm curious how other people do it. I feel like after work is so hectic and I'm exhausted. When I get home from work, I nurse LO, wash all the pump stuff, get her dinner ready, feed her, bathe her, get her bottles/food ready for the next day, put her to bed. Thank goodness DH gets our dinner ready. I'd love to take her for walks in the stroller but time wise it's just not feasible on a work day.

yesssss.......LO and I get home around 4:30ish, so we have a few hours before DH gets home (usually right in time to put her to bed), so I typically allow myself about 20 minutes to chill on the couch and eat a snack while LO destroys the living room and dumps her toys everywhere  But after my "break", I really make a concerted effort to get up and do something with her--either take her to the park if weather is nice, or take her to our community room for a change of scenery.

Then we come back just in time for me to prep for dinner--and while she eats, I quickly straighten the living room a bit so it's not a total wreck when DH gets home.

Props to my husband though--he usually doesn't get home till 7:30 and he just washes his hands and dives right in, finish LOs bath, getting her PJs on, and putting her to bed. him.

@mrbee: yes but I find the energy because I have to be present

My DH is wiped and will sit on the couch and relax after work - I don't feel like I have that luxury. I usually play with the kids or am cooking dinner or making lunches for the next day - I don't sit down until they are in bed - I have way too much that must get done
