Occasionally he still have some nights where he cries for quite a while before able to go to sleep and we still heartlessly ignore him and do the 5, 10, 15 minute checks.</p> <p>On the other hand, I am scared because say if he cries at 4:30am (he usually doesn't cry, he makes noises) and I ignore him, there is a possibility that he would continue to stay up for an hour or more until I can't stand it anymore and just go in and feed him, and it will be morning already anyway and it messes up the entire day. </p> <p>Besides, it is kinda hard to sleep train when you wake up to rock solid boobs and is more eager to get relieve (by having your baby drinking from it) rather than training your baby.... </p> https://boards.hellobee.com/topic/are-you-too-scared-to-sleep-train#post-166700 Wed, 23 May 2012 18:16:51 +0000 regberadaisy 166700@https://boards.hellobee.com/ <p>I don't think I can do the cry it out method. DH was all for it, and had been since LO was 4 months (and our friends were ferberizing, and our pediatrician said "let him cry.")<br /> Finally, I agreed to let DH be in charge and to give it a try, and I think we must have just caught him at a good time for it developmentally, because he never cried more than 10-15 minutes. It was actually really good for me, because up to that point, I would rush to LO every time he fussed, no matter the time... I never ever gave him any chance to self-soothe (though I have to imagine this was not the case at daycare, which he started at 12 weeks). It really helped me learn that LO COULD do it and be just fine... after the first couple nights, he'd cry for like two minutes, and then be fine. Now when we put him down for naps and bedtime, he's usually just fine, but occasionally he'll start to cry... and usually by the time I've closed the door to the room and walked to the top of the stairs he's quiet again. Before we decided to try a modified CIO out, I wouldn't have left the room if he was crying. So I'm glad we took the plunge and at least gave it a try. I thought it would be good for her to nap train.... but I guess yes I was too scared. After 8 months of refusing to nap in her crib we decided to try it again. But not CIO, we would pick her up and comfort her. Only we never had to do that. She would cry for less then a minute and then go to sleep. I nap trained one of her naps, then just applied the same sleeping strategy to her other nap and eventually to her bedtime routine. I also waited out her night wakings. She finally stopped waking up at night less than a month ago at 9 months.
