I don't think so, unfortunately I have worked with most of the doulas in my city through working in NICU and they all really annoyed me at some point (and now they are all banned from the NICU for the inappropriate suggestions that they felt it their role to make). In my hospital we work really closely with LDR and Maternity though, so I am more than comfortable with the environment and staff.

I am absolutely hiring one for the birth of my next child... I intended on pain management through epidural and it all went terribly awry (3 failures). I believe most insurance covers a portion of the doula fee. You can call your company and ask.

I want to. My brother's gf had one. Does anyone know if insurance covers them?

I had a hospital birth attended by two midwives and an OB. I didn't need one, but had the birth not been attended by midwives, I would have gotten one.

Probably not, I had one for my first birth and I REALLY liked her, she was awesome but I think I will be fine without one, however if there isn't that much of a price difference between the package with one and the one without, I might just go for it.

Absolutely! I may be biased though, as I'm currently in school to get my doula certification myself.

I'm really considering hiring a doula for my first birth. We've never done this before, so I think it'll be nice to have a professional who will support us.

Yes I had a doula and if you ask me, it was the best $800 baby-allocated dollars we spent. My husband still thinks otherwise, but then, he's not the one who had to be coached through pushing a watermelon out a hole the size of a straw.

Hubs is in the medical field so I don't think we'll be using a doula. I didn't know they existed until recently though!

Honestly before speaking to some Bee Mamas, I had not clue a doula existed. Nor did I know about home births. I knew there were birthing houses (for woman who want to give non-hospital natural births) but in your house and a doula... nope. Had no clue.

We didn't have a doula. The hubs was adamant about being my birth coach and didn't think we needed a doula. He didn't end up being my birth coach, but I had a speedy delivery and an awesome nurse so it worked out in the end!

I had never heard of a doula before we had Charlie:

<< A Doula is someone who provides non-medical support to women and their families during labor and childbirth, and also the postpartum period. >>

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Doula

We had a doula at Charlie's birth, and she turned out to be very helpful. But I only learned about doulas because Mrs. Bee and I took a birthing class together. (I'm sure Bee knew all about it before that though.)

Are you considering a doula?
