@Mrs. Yoyo: Well, today daddy pulled out the camera and he said "cheese" very clearly. So, almost immediately after saying I worried, he pulls that out of his hat.

@MsMini: yeah you never want to see a 6.3 or something like that. Cord pH s are notoriously unreliable though and you surely know too much!

@Mrs. Jacks: Yeah, I actually wish that I wouldn't have grabbed the chart and saw the cord pH ... the ped told me he didn't think it was accurate, but the number was super scary! It is hard to let go for sure, so far he has been on time with his milestones though, so it helps.

@banana: nope no speech therapy. He just doesn't say much. I was really worried at his three year old check up (because my twins who are 8 months younger were talking more) but our pediatrician said he was fine.

When he was 2.5 he barely said mama and dada regularly but one day when my husband was away on business he walked up to me and said mommy where is daddy? I was shocked. He wouldn't say little things but said a whole long sentence together, so I just figured when he has something to say he will say it. I started changing some of my behavior though and asking him to say more. Trying to not respond to just his grunts even though I knew what he wanted.

Now that he has started preschool there has been a big jump too. He will be four in a month.

charlie pretty much hit all his milestones on average so i wasn't too worried about him. he did have this phase when he was around 1 where he kept hitting his head that worried me, but apparently that's common and he grew out of it. i don't worry about him at all now.

olive, i try not to compare, but i do worry. she is way behind physically. she is still belly crawling at 1 year, she isn't cruising -- all milestones charlie hit by 7 months. i know plenty of kids who were late with physical milestones so i don't worry about that too much.

she is babbling, but charlie did understand a lot more commands at her age. it's still too early to tell if she's delayed with speech, but it's something i definitely think about!

@caffeinated: 7-9 months is the outside edge for consonant vowel babbling like dadadada or babababa. At 9 months, I'll probably push for a speech eval... Though she vocalizes in other ways and I think she's getting there, it would be great to have extra support to help!

LO is doing great in her physical milestones but i get so worried about her speech, whether she's babbling or not. I hate those charts because they just get you worried! Then i get even more anxious when people comment on how quiet LO is for a 6 month old. Talk about stress central.

@Mrs. Jacks: is it at the 9 month mark where you should be concerned about babbling? my LO isn't really even saying much.

Yeah, I don't mean to worry but I can't help it. L wasn't sitting up very well until recently (she's 7.5 months old) and I noticed a slight head lag until she was about 7 months old. When I freaked out to our ped, she laughed at me (in a nice way) and told me not to worry so much. It's so hard not to, though, especially when you're surrounded by babies all the same age...

@MsMini: the curse of the mama who knows too much! I'm glad you are able to let go and let Sawyer be. My pediatrician thinks I'm a freak. She forbids me to bring up the babbling issue until 9 months, but I'm having a hard time letting it go!

Before she was even born, I read all about autism. She's still really young, but so far she hasn't shown any of the signs that I've read about. She's even a little advanced, except for not wanting to roll over. I'm expecting her to be a little delayed with speaking because we're starting her off bilingual, but it doesn't worry me at all.

I know that a few weeks or months might seem like a lot now, but I feel like she'll catch up. It seems all babies are different with early developmental milestones. The range for normal seems like a really wide margin and taking longer doesn't mean there's anything wrong.

@oceanis723: I'm hoping my son will start talking by the time he's 3. Right now he only says around 10 words and he's 2 1/2! He's very delayed. But he understands everything we say and he babbles/jargons all day long. He just won't talk! I'm hoping it's just a speech delay and nothing else. Did your son receive speech therapy?

I kept a close eye on it at first because Sawyer's cord pH was really terrible, but once he met the first couple milestones on time I don't stress about it. I just like to concentrate on letting my baby be my baby!

@brownie: Interesting. Most of LO's babbling (15 mos, almost 16) is just B- and D-sounds. He says Dada. That's about it. It's weird ... there were short periods where he said bath/ball ... but then he stopped. No Mama, still. Sigh.

I am always worried. My husband thinks I have autistic tendencies and a good friend of ours son is very high functioning autistic. I watch what he does and my son and compare. I try to remember what it was like when they were little. My LO doesn't talk much and ultimately only says B and D starting words (Daddy, Doggy, Bubba, Bubbles, Ball). He also says More, Eat, Ma ma. But I feel like he is so far behind with speech. Then again he can already jump with 2 feet (at 17 months old). So he is advanced physically.

Not really. My daughter has a few little friends who have personalities like hers - def more physical than verbal. The other two parents have had their pediatricians mention they might test them at 2 yo if they don't start saying some more actual words. My LO is a couple months younger so we haven't had that talk yet but it seems silly to me. They are all super social little girls and a smart little bunch with how they put stuff together so I just figure the word explosion will happen. We do try to read to her a lot and make sure to point out what the names are for different things.

My 2 1/2 year old son is speech delayed and we're getting him speech therapy to try to get him caught up by kindergarten. This whole experience has gotten me so much more on edge with my daughter, making sure her development is right on track. And she's only 10 weeks old!

Are there any areas of development in your LO that you're worried about?
