@josina: I love the prompts.

For LO's birthday I asked family to write letters to him that would be opened like a time capsule when he's 18. I still need to set up an email for him to send all of his pictures.

Answering my own question, but I found this great blog with lots of great starter questions:
http://www.mamaplusone.com/writing-letters-children-part-three-prompts/

Currently working on a (very long) email that covers all the questions about my past. I love these prompts!

I have been emailing my LOs (I made gmail addresses for both of them). I started DD's when she was a bit past 1 and have been doing them on major milestones (basically every birthday and half-birthday). I started DS's when he was a newborn and so far have written to him every 3 months (which reminds me that I need to write his 9 month email asap). I send a few photos and recap what has happened.

It's starting to become a bit of work so as they get older, I may limit it to their birthdays. But I'm glad I have been doing it so far.

@littlebug: Qeepsake seems really neat, I like the idea of the 'prompt's because thats what I struggle with.
Is there a way to copy/paste from there to send emails, or do you have to print the book to get the memories? I already have so many books with my chatbooks, not sure I want more.

I have email addresses for both kids, and Hubs and I occasionally email them. It was really frequent for D at first (like monthly), but once A was born, it became much less frequent, and poor A hardly has any emails. I'm trying to get better. I also recently started using the Qeepsake app, which texts questions 1x/week and then I can print a book or something with them at some point.

Sorry guys forgot I started this last week!

@MrsRoo: She is 6 months, she did so well and the photos are adorable, I highly recommend doing one!
Good idea to keep notes on your phone to later put into an email.

@looch: That is so neat! I like the idea of having something tangible to actually give him.
@wrkbrk: Well I just started with my 2-1/2 year old, so he has one email so far. ;)

@Mrs. Goose: I set up an email for each of them with their names, and then emailed myself and DH the email and passwords so we have them, and also wrote them down in their baby books.
Not sure on signing in to keep it active, but I guess I better do it just in case. My email is a back-up on them, so I would think I'd get a warning email first?

This email idea is super cool. I think I'll have to start that. I did write them both letters while pregnant (but wrote my first a few more and also wrote a letter on her first birthday.). Didn't print it off my computer yet.

So you just set up an email account for them and saved the password? This may sound silly...but do you need to log in periodically to keep it active or anything?

I wrote in a daily calendar for ODD her first year and am doing the same with YDD. I also have a journal I write in periodically. DH has set up email accounts for both the girls and emails periodically.

I was inspired by a time capsule at my son's school, so I went out and found a luggage style box and am writing him letters from both parents and both sets of grandparents at the end of each school year. I wish I would have thought to do it in preschool, from his teachers, but I missed the boat. I might ask his K teacher to do it, and I still see his preschool teacher on occasion, so, maybe I have a chance.

We're doing letters, it's so rare to get paper mail.

I have an email address for him and sent stuff randomly, it ends up being every month or so. It is usually short funny memories or traits of his that I appreciate. I also send him his "updates" (12m, 14m, 16m, etc.) because I type those out anyway for our yearly shutterfly album.

@josina: love the wedding dress shoot! I have that pinned but haven't yet booked a session. How old was your DD when you did it?

I just started writing to my girls. So far I hand wrote letters and scanned them and emailed to the kids email accounts. Those were just about them so far, an intro into why I was writing, and about our family. Then I just emailed their list of baby milestones, and I basically just send them those little moments that I don't want to forget. Favorite words they mispronounce, sweet things they say, do, etc. I keep a note on my phone of stuff I don't want to forget and then periodically make it into a more cohesive email.
After my mom passed it was really important for me to have tangible evidence of her and her love for me, I guess. So I really want to be sure that at least yearly I scan them something handwritten. I keep the hard copies in their file boxes at home for now.

I recently set up email accounts for DS and DD, and plan to email them periodically, sending letters or pictures, for them to be able to read/have in the future, possibly at 18?

I'm curious for others who do this, what sorts of things to do you write? How often? Any ideas to share?

So far I have emailed both of them their birth stories and some pictures from their first few months.
I emailed DD today photos from a shoot of her in my wedding dress, along with the story of how I found it.
