My grandfathers both passed awaybefore I was born.
Maternal grandmother had medical issues and passed away when she was around 70yo.
My paternal grandmother is alive and healthy, I'm pretty sure her mind is sharper than mine. She's 97!

It's a crap shoot. Some live super long (my great great aunt lived to be 105 and my grandfather's brother is still doing great and living alone at 95), but not all

My father's father died before 60. And most men on my dad's side have as well. Not from any linked causes though (my dad and his brother had unrelated forms of cancer)

The women in my family live to be pretty old, so I have very good odds, ha. My paternal grandmother passed at 95, and my maternal grandmother at 92. Neither suffered from dementia and both were sharp as a tack until they passed away.

The men in my family died "younger," by which I mean my grandfathers were in their 80s. Both, however, died from complications from disease (one had cancer, the other diabetes). I also have some uncles that died fairly young (40s & 50s) from various diseases (cancer, diabetes, pneumonia). So I guess my brothers better watch out, ha.

I feel lucky that we have not had to deal with dementia or Alzheimer's--my best friend's mother-in-law is dealing with early-onset Alzheimer's (she's in her early 50s) and it has been incredibly hard on her family.

Both of my grandfathers passed away when my parents were still kids. My grandmothers passed away in their mid to late 80's. My dad is currently 85, and his mental and physical health is starting to decline.

Hard to say, but probably not. I only have one living parent and one living grandparent.

It's not like my family members die young, though. My mom was the youngest, she died in her 50s from complications of issues that she had her whole life (which sadly, seem to affect several other members of her family). Her father died in his 80s and her mother is still alive now, in her 80s.

My dad's father was actually born in 1899 so even though he died before I was born, he was not young. I believe he was in his late 70s. My dad's mom was relatively young when she died (also before I was born), I think in her 50s or 60s. My dad had/has 3 sisters. One is still alive and in her 90s now, and the others all lived into their late 80s.

Yes.

Maternal Grandmother lived to 96
Paternal Grandmother lived to 88
Paternal Grandfather lived to 95
Maternal Grandfather died from throat cancer young, maybe in his 40's.

It's about 50/50.
My paternal grandmother lived to 99.5, but my dad passed away at 62 (before her :crying:). My paternal grandfather was in his 80s. On my mother's side, my grandfather was 88 I think. My grandmother died from injuries in a car accident in her late 60s.

My maternal side:
Grandma died a few days short of her 90th birthday. She had emphysema due to second-hand smoke during grandpa's younger years. Her mind was still very sharp when she passed, but her body was weak. Grandpa lived to be 89, almost 90. He had alzheimer's and required hospice care.

Paternal grandparents:
My grandma was 75 when she died. She had a weak heart and had numerous health problems that required her to have dialysis. She died of heart failure. My grandpa is my last living grandparent. He's 85 and recently had open heart surgery and undergoing dialysis. I've always known of him to be very healthy.

It's hard to say. My grandparents certainly didn't have the same access to healthcare and knowledge of a healthy lifestyle like we do today. My paternal grandmother died in her 40s from a kidney problem that could be cured today. My paternal grandfather died at 96, and mostly because his health declined rapidly after a bad fall where he hit his head. On my mom's side, my grandmother died in her 60s and my grandfather is still alive in his early 80s. My own mom died at 52, but she had numerous, very severe health issues (not genetic).

It's hard to say. My great grandparents on my dad's side passed away before I was born. Or shortly thereafter? I don't remember them.
My paternal grandparents are late 70's and doing very well. They have always been very healthy- active and eat well.

My maternal great grandmother lived to 88, her husband died when I was 7 to brain cancer.
My maternal grandmother died at 64 to emphysema and SBO. I don't know my maternal grandfather.

So, there doesn't appear to be much longevity. My grandmothers death was so preventable :( all her illnesses were caused by 40+ years of smoking.

My dad lived to 83, and his parents (my grandparents) lived into their 70s. My dad had some dementia though, so he lost cognitive function in his last few years.

My mom is still going at 72, and her mom is in her 90s! But her mom has severe dementia, and believes it is the 1940s. My mom's dad passed a long time ago of tuberculosis, which would be curable today.

So all in all, 3 out of my 4 grandparents lived to a pretty old age - so I should too, as long as my health is decent! I do have some risk factors for dementia though, so I'm hoping they cure that one in the next 40 years or so!
