@mediagirl: yyyeeeahhh that would be a big fat 'no' from me on anymore field trips unless my husband or I were chaperoning.

@Truth Bombs: you wouldn't even believe the field trip to the farm they did. I made my husband go because I was worried and he took this picture. He was up with the kids in the corn bin (left) and all the parent chaperones and teachers were down at another activity (right), facing away from the kids. I can't even.

Not really. They are pretty on top of things. Sometimes things slip through the cracks but nothing of major importance.

Disorganization regarding a field trip would really upset me. Honestly, the idea of a day care field trip makes me uneasy anyway (the child to adult ratio in an uncontrolled environment), but if I didn't feel like the adults were 100% on top of their shit, I wouldn't be letting my kid go. The Christmas song thing wouldn't bother me though. My kid can memorize songs faster than I can, three days would be plenty. And if they don't get it exactly right, it's really not a big deal, it's just a show for the parents.

Our daycare seems pretty organized. They aren't always great about getting notices to parents, but that's only for pretty mundane things.

The one field trip Xander went on was VERY organized! They knew who was chaperoning, gave all the chaperone's a sheet with the main teacher's phone number and the names of the kids they were chaperoning (your own kid plus their buddy). They ensured they had all the necessary car seats and transportation they needed. And they did constant head counts! It was awesome!

The only hiccup was Christmas/ Santa pictures. We got maybe 3 days notice, whereas with Fall pictures we were told a month ahead. Otherwise, they are great about communication. If they weren't I think that would greatly impact working parents involvement in daytime activities. DH was able to get out of weeklong OOT business trip to attend the Christmas party on Friday only because they started letting us know about it 3-4 weeks ago.

No, I feel like they are super organized. We have an app and they are great at updating it and sending pictures. The daycare is onsite at my work so they have the support of a major corporation and is run as a benefit for the employees and not to create a profit so I think they probably have extra resources to help them out.

Ours is well organized but there aren't field trips. However they host quarterly evening events for families which are always well done. They have a app for daily reports and the newsletter is sent out via email and Facebook.

@mediagirl: her old daycare would get a B+ for organization. Things like making unscheduled stops at the grocery store would bother me

No, but that would drive me nuts. Our last daycare was super unorganized. Our current preschool uses an app to send reminders to parents and is pretty on top of everything.

Our daycare is really old-school and low-tech, and I wish things were a bit more electronic, but they really do have their act together within their system. I guess that's what comes from 40 years under the same director. No email, but very smooth operations!

Our daycare has been really great at organization and communication (I really, really value it).

I'd say the worst offense would be not sending the monthly lunch menu before the 1st of the month (we bring our LO's lunch some days because of dietary needs). But that really only impacts us, and I don't hold it against them.

I actually don't have my shit together - like ever ... so maybe I wouldn't even notice if they made little mistakes or last minute changes.

I think our day care teachers are awesome, and I have no idea how they do it! They don't always give me a daily report, but if I ask them how A's day was, they are always able to give me a couple updates.

Slighty? We don't have an app, but I don't always get a daily report. That's really it though.. I also don't drop off or pick up otherwise I'd probably ask more questions than DH/my mom do!

Ours are so unorganized!
Examples:
-First field trip: we were told the day before that kids need to bring their own lunch. Then they didn't bring enough waters for the afternoon so they had to stop at the grocery store on the way back to the school to hydrate the kids.
-Second field trip: we were told a week before that we needed to bring lunches. At 11:30pm the night before the field trip, we were sent an email that said NOT to bring lunch.
-Finally, the daycare pageant. Our daughter came home Monday and told us that they practiced their pageant on stage that day and the director watched. They were told that they forgot to practice one of their songs. So, they have 3 days to memorize one of the songs for the pageant...
