We have a resonably large italian culture here, but mostly people are white. Most people are Christian too, (though we are not). Our state is one of the whitest in the nation; so there isn’t much diversity wherever you go. Most of my core 3-4 girlfriends are other Black women (either of U.S. or Caribbean origin mostly), BUT my larger friend circle is all over the place in terms of race and ethnicity: Korean, Japanese, Puerto Rican, Chilean, Filipino, etc. Our building and area is pretty varied as well (or at least I think so based on the people who seem to live or walk here). Most of my friends of other religions are Jewish. It's NYC, so it's hard not to know someone who is not Jewish whether practicing or not (at least that's my opinion). </p> <p>For DH and I, our couple friend group is made up of a variety of interracial couples (like us!), which we love. We've got Laotian-Trinidadian, Chinese-Yankee WASP (her description, not mine! :)), Jewish-Filipino, etc. Our wedding looked like a Bennetton ad. </p> <p>For DH it's a little different. He grew up in a small town with almost no racial diversity. Ethnically it was a little different as there were many people of Italian and Irish descent. Now that we are living in Beijing, I can see that the expat community here is quite strong and close knit, so LO's friends will most likely be expat babies from Europe, US, and Australia. My college friends are European immigrants, while most of the friends I grew up with are Asian. So pretty diverse.</p> <p>But diversity is something I worry about with LO. It's still pretty homogeneous here in Sweden.
