not really sure about this one. i'm sure if anything really happened, they'd take my husband's side. but in daily situations, probably the one who they believe is right? who knows. so far, haven't really been in situations where their loyalties were "tested"....

Depends on the situation, however I do feel like my MIL sticks up for me more than my DH. My DH has tendancies to act immature/drink too much when he gets around his cousins at family functions, she always has my back when I tell him to slow down or it's time to go. Things like that, she knows what it's like since my FIL used to be the same way.

I don't think my mom is more loyal to my DH, but she completely accepts him as part of the family.
As for DHs family, they are definitely not more loyal to me, but I wouldn't mind it if after baby comes they like me a bit more.

My mother-in-law almost always takes my side in debate/discussion. I'm not sure how she really feels inside but I think she made a decision early on that she would take my side on things, and I do appreciate it. We still don't agree on everything, but this has come in handy for wedding planning and house-buying.

MIL is loyal to herself and that's about it. I guess she'd be more inclined to side with SO but only in ways that gets her what she's wanting. (It's not THAT bad, but that is her)

My mom has taken DH on like a son and just like with my sister and I, she's very FAIR..... she sides with justice lol. So if I'm the one needs a little "shaping up" she tells me... if it's him... she tells him. lol It really is great though, my mom is a wonderful source of counsel and support for both of us. =)

I would say they are more loyal to me... Well they are much nicer to me and it just happened over time but probably more so after we had our daughter.

Haha my mom always tells me I'm being too hard on Mr. Z, even about stupid little things like we both want to be the one to drive to the grocery store. I think overall she is still more loyal/closer to me, but in any kind of petty argument she always tells me to just let him win!!

I would say they are even. They are almost in the area of, you are adults, handle it yourself, I guess you could say. My parents on the other hand seem to love DH more than me! they will go on trips and get him something, or will call just to talk to him! I don't mind though because it reinforces how much they like and approve of him :) But, when it comes down to it, they all favor DS most!

I've been surprised at the number of in-laws who have "switched teams"... i.e. they are more loyal to their daughter-in-law than they are to their own son!

This process seems to usually take place after grandkids are involved. Still, it's surprising to me. I think in general, in-laws are much nicer to their new "sons" and "daughters" than they used to be. I heard stories about how in Japan, your mother-in-law was often expected to treat her daughter-in-law as almost like a slave. So this is a true revolution!

Are your in-laws loyal to you or your SO? Was there a point at which it felt like they had switched teams, and were more loyal to you?
