My DH has tendancies to act immature/drink too much when he gets around his cousins at family functions, she always has my back when I tell him to slow down or it's time to go. I'm not sure how she really feels inside but I think she made a decision early on that she would take my side on things, and I do appreciate it. They are almost in the area of, you are adults, handle it yourself, I guess you could say. My parents on the other hand seem to love DH more than me! they will go on trips and get him something, or will call just to talk to him! Still, it's surprising to me. I think in general, in-laws are much nicer to their new "sons" and "daughters" than they used to be. I heard stories about how in Japan, your mother-in-law was often expected to treat her daughter-in-law as almost like a slave. So this is a true revolution!</p> <p>Are your in-laws loyal to you or your SO? Was there a point at which it felt like they had switched teams, and were more loyal to you? </p>
