We are pretty flexible but also follow their lead if we can tell they're getting tired or need a snack. We usually stay out most of the day and get stroller naps in and try to eat lunch out so evening when they're getting antsy we can do something more low key. I think we could probably be more flexible at home and they would also be fine but it's just easier for everyone to have a routine. Sometimes we skip nap or take it at a weird time and she always, always ends up going to bed later than normal... We just spent a week away in a foreign country (just an hour time difference). Our kids were great and totally were flexible.
