I think he has until December of 2015. He owns his own dermatology practice (and she is his office manager), and I don't think he would want to close his practice or sell yet. </p> <p>DH's parents are both retired from owning a Chinese restaurant. They have lunches with friends and walk the dog. And they come visit dd and me for a day every week.</p> <p>My mum is also retired. She lost her husband, my stepdad, right when she retired, so her life changed in every way. She was really nervous about the transition, but she's done an AMAZING job - I'm so proud of her! She's made a ton of new friends and is always busy. She walks with a group of ladies for an hour every morning, belongs to a book club, is a member of multiple art museums and local film festivals, curls in the winter, rides her bike a lot in the summer. They made some poorly timed financial decisions (right as the housing market crashed) and ended up upside down on their mortgage at 50+ years old. They will probably have to work for another 10-15 years :sad: </p> <p>DH's parents are semi-retired: they own their own business which gives them quite a bit of flexibility. They travel a lot! My dad retired 6 or 7 years ago with the intention of going back to work just part time after to keep busy and make a little extra money (he was very young when he retired, like 52 or so). But the job he took ended up to be more than he expected and he's basically working more now than before he retired haha. He plans to retire (again) in under 2 years, but then REALLY just go back to work part time (for real) after that. He doesn't think he's the type to ever just sit around but he'd like to work just 15-20 hrs/week consulting or something. </p> <p>My mom is retiring in 2 weeks! So exciting. She plans to take 6 months or so off so she'll have lots of time to come see us when the baby is born, and to get their house ready to sell.
