Cat is only afraid of the vacuum cleaner and DH. Dog isn't afraid of anything but will bark at construction equipment (and then only one deep woof before ignoring it again).

Thunder, no. Some light fireworks are fine, but anything loud and excessive and the dog gets worried and the cat flies under the sofa.

@BabyBoecksMom: It works so much better than I ever imagined it would! I hope it helps their poor husky.

@autumnlove: HAHA! That's too funny

@Foodnerd81: I've never heard of that but I'll have to pass that trick on to my parents. Their poor husky mix is terrified of storms.

My poor pup hates both. She doesn't wine but she will go hide in the computer room under the desk and shake. I always feel so bad for her.

My dog is really scared of both and will bark up a storm if left to his own devices. We got a trick from Caesar Milan that works though-- we put him on his leash and hold the leash (even if we go back to bed). According to Caesar, being on the leash indicates that now WE are in charge so he doesn't have to worry about being scared of the thunder. I don't know about the psychology of it, but it calms him right down. Don't have a solution for when we aren't home though.

After a big fireworks display, like the 4th of July, it takes him a while to calm down still, even with the leash. I get it, it's scary.

We have three cats. One runs and sits on the window ledge and stares out. Whenever the thunder hits she starts, turns around and looks at me or DH, and then stares back out the window. Another one doesn't move an inch from where she's (inevitably) sleeping. The third hides under our bed or in the closet. We call him our brave little boy, lol.

We're lucky that neither of our big dogs are bothered, but I grew up with dogs that would whine like crazy until well after the storm or fireworks finished.
