Our lab is female. We've just found they make better duck dogs. They tend to train easier and smarter, and seem more eager to please.

all our kitties ( 3 of them) are boys. I find that male cats are more "loveable".... and now I just found out Im having a boy.... Im surrounded by testosterone!

I think we lean towards the male gender... not sure why...

We have a female dog.. I've never had a male! She does hump everything! Not people, because she is way to small to manage that (only 4 pounds) but she humps slippers, stuffed animals, etc. She is spayed and has been since she was 6 months old! They told us in puppy school they hump to show they are in charge! lol
I think our next dog will be a male because my husband is feeling out numbered.. especially since our dog is SO small and not very manly!

We have a cat. She is female. My mom always said they were easier to pick up after, and didn't pee everywhere. That has actually been my experience too (and they were all fixed) but it could just be coincidence! :P

@daniellemybelle: I knoe they do it to calves, but I've never heard of it being done to dogs. I think someone did it to my dog because he doesn't have any male tendencies and doesn't have a scar. It's like they were never there.

We have a male dog, but he's only about 4 1/2 months old, so no humping or any annoying behaviors yet. He was a breeze to train though, and is a loving, sweet boy. I think female dogs can be more loyal/attached, but we like that he is easygoing and not clingy. I couldn't imagine having anybody other than our sweet little boy!

@Leialou: Is tying off their male parts something people really do!? :(

Two male cats, but I didn't care when I got them. I do know now that male cats are prone to kidney stones, and after almost losing one of mine to a blockage, it's something I'll have to be aware of in the future since males are higher risk.

Our dog is a boy and he is seriously the most cuddly loving dog I've ever been around! He did hump a bit in the early days but not since he was neutered. He's a Boston Terrier though, and I know they are known for having really social and loving personalities :)

Female dog, we were told they train easier and have less accidents, although I haven't found this to be the case. She still has accidents as a "I'm punishing you for leaving me" kind of thing. She will do it immediately when we leave; I have had to turn around after forgetting something and there was already a present on the rug. She has to be locked up usually when we leave because of this diva attitude. :(

My grandma always says to get boys because they're cheaper to neuter than females are to spay :D she's extremely frugal! We have a boy cat, but gender didn't play a big part in our selection though.

Growing up, my family had males and females of both dogs and cats. I can't say it made any difference, especially when all the parts were removed. Personalities seemed to be more based on the breed and individual animal.

I have a male and a female also. They are both extremely affectionate and cuddly, but my boy is more sweet and submissive in temperament and my girl is more independent and extremely, extremely stubborn. We have 5 dogs in our family (in-laws) of which 3 are boys and 2 are girls, and all the boys are bullied by the girls and the two girls do not get along. They are all small dog breeds - I kind of find that with the small breeds, the males are more docile and the females more dominant and independent. However, my boy DOES lift his leg from time to time so that is a pain in my butt, if I ever get another dog, I will probably get a girl to avoid this!

We have a male and a female dog. The male never humps. He doesn't even lift his leg when he pees. I think his male parts were tied off when he was born. When my husband adopted him he was already fixed. Our female dog was harder to potty train. We still have to crate her when we leave for long periods of time. They are both affectionate and playful.

Growing up we had almost exclusively male pets (cats and dogs). We had one girl cat she was real bi-atch. So we just stuck with male animals after that. Hubs and I have a male dog and the only person he has ever humped is my husband and it's very very rare, and I don't know that I've ever seen him hump another dog.

I've had 1 female and 2 male dogs each at different times. I think the temperament of the dog has more to do with the breed traits and how it was trained than the gender.

I found that the female seemed a bit more possessive and spiteful. As she aged she got nippy too. She was a terrier mix. My 2 males - Shiba Inu and a lab/hound mix. the shiba acted more like a cat at times very standoffish around new people but overall very gentle and affectionate. Me and him were best buds and he was always by my side. my current dog is the lab mix and while he's overly friendly he's a bit skittish around loud noises.

When we rescued him we chose male because of the personal experience we'd had with our other pets and i've always thought it was easier to house train a male.
