My Brittany is really smart. He's only 5 months old, and has already learned how to open our doors. Very annoying.

Our male is a bit of an oaf, does things like get confused if the door isn't open enough for him to get through without nudging it. Our female is a trixie little hobbit, she opens garbage cans and retaliates if she's mad at us.

Our dog was sitting on the back of the couch (like a cat) and sees his own reflection in the window. He just started growling at his reflection because he thought it was an intruder. Then, he started barking like crazy and ran out the back door to make sure no one was in the yard. He just ran back inside looking so proud because he thinks he scared the intruder away. He'll do this 10 more times before he finally just falls asleep. No, he's not the brightest, but he's so darn cute.

@twodoghouse: I feel ya! Our Aussie is soooo smart she keeps us on our toes.
I have 4 dogs, our pug/Chi mix is pretty darn crafty too.

I have 4 cats as well. One is VERY smart, too danr smart in my opinion. Then one other cat is very people smart if that makes sense. She I think relates to people better than she does the other cats.

I'm not sure if this is smart or gross....or both? Sometimes my cats will get little turds stuck on their butt, and they will drag their little butts on the ground to get them off (gross! I know!) well they always do it right outside the little box thank goodness. But that's in our carpeted, guest room. Well everytime one of them does it now, they jump on the bed drag a stuffed animal/teddy bear I have on the bed and push it over the poop on the ground!

I don't know how many stuffed animals I've had to throw out because of it. Actually, I think we are down to just 1 left in there!

@Bao: Hahaha! That is great!!

I do not have any pets currently, but my parents have two dogs. One is smart but stubborn. Like, she never learned any tricks or how to follow commands, but she is sneaky and cunning!! The other one can follow commands, but poor guy is not too bright. He is sweet and cuddly though, so that makes up for it!

My landlady has a cat who is pretty smart. He comes over to visit once a day or so, and will find the hidden cat treats every time. He even knows how to open the desk drawers where we keep them, haha.

Our chihuahua mix is awesome.. but not terribly bright. :)

Our pomeranian is one of those evil geniuses that's just waiting to take over the world. She plays the fool so well though. I tried to teach her tricks for weeks and failed, then someone told me to use cheese as a reward. She learned seven tricks in one hour. Sit, Down, All the way down (head down too), Stand, Paw, Other paw, Ballet (spin in a circle).

We found a doggie IQ test online. My hound got a really high score... the chihuahua did not. Poor thing. Some things my big dog has learned how to do include climbing fences, unlatching gates with his tongue, and open trash can kids by stepping on the foot pedal.

My english bulldog is incredibly smart (his breed isn't known for being so) ... he can learn any trick if there's food involved. However he is also probably the most stubborn dog I have ever known. He will absolutely refuse to do something if he doesn't feel like it ... haul out a treat though, and he becomes a genius again :)

@oliviaoblivia: Our Aussies (well, one's an Aussie/BC) are too smart for their own good! I feel like they are constantly manipulating us into doing their bidding.

My parents have a beagle mix (not sure what he's mixed with) and he is so sweet and goofy, but so dumb! I'm not sure if he even knows his own name. We love him all the same, though!

I have one creepily smart cat and then an average one. My smart one though is a handful. Like if we don't do something he wants he goes on attack mode, if he embarrasses himself (like trying to jump on a chair but misses) he starts licking his paw and pretending he didn't want to be up there anyways. And he can open all cabinets and he opened my freezer when we were on our honeymoon.

Our dogs are incredibly smart. One of them we've caught blowing (very purposely, not sniffing) through her nose at a bug to get it out of a crevice. The other one reaches up and pulls on the paddle style door handles while the second one pushes so they can open doors.

Our cats are of below average intelligence. But our doggie is brilliant. She teaches herself how to do all sorts of things. I'm hoping when the baby comes that she will fetch diapers for me. She already brings the mail and my slippers when I ask her so it should be too big a stretch.

Smart, but in the wrong ways! Our younger dog learned how to open the cabinet to get himself a treat, and he regularly throws his ball down the stairs when he gets bored and we're not playing with him enough. Our older dog also learned how to open the baby gates by himself. Unfortunately, neither of them have figured out how to keep their heads from getting stuck in the fence. :/
