@Rainbow Sprinkles: Ooh, didn't think of that!!! Might be more exciting than just walking around!

@MSBartlett: The drive isn't terribly bad from Scottsdale (we're drivers too so longer drives don't phase us). DH is a huge history guy so he's into that... Kartchner Caverns seems awesome though!!! Definitely writing that one down!

@LindseyinNY: I would recommend trying to see the meteor crater since it is not too far out of the way from sedona and the grand canyon. Tombstone is a really long drive from Sedona and I tend to think it is slightly overrated, unless DH really is interested in going. I think that it would be worth it to try to include more time there if you are going to make the drive. I would recommend going to Kartchner Caverns if you need other things to do in that area. In-n-Out is a definite must.

@LindsayInNY: you can helicopter over the grand canyon! I think they take you down in it, too.

If you drive through casa grande or tucson (on the way to tombsone) stop at eegees and get an eegee. It's a local sandwich shop and its delicious!

My family actually has a condo in Scottsdale. I go to AZ often.

My only suggestion is the grand canyon and lots of laying poolside!

@LindsayInNY: I think 3 days at the Grand Canyon would be overkill if you're just touring the rim and not going down into the canyon. 2 days should be more than enough!

@Foodnerd81: Mules are not allowed for pregnant women at all. =/ I saw El Tovar lodge - wasn't sure how that compared to other lodging. DH wants to "splurge" but I reminded him that we're talking national park, LOL. I'm fearful that 3 days will be too much if we can't/won't be doing a mule ride.

@mewtill: Never been to Flagstaff! Will have to look into that.

@PurplePumps: Didn't think of Monument Valley - will have to do some research! Sounds right up DH's history-loving alley!

The Grand Canyon is a big draw for sure. It sounds like you've got a good plan going. For me, I'd rather stay overnight in Flagstaff instead of Sedona. Sedona is pretty, but I like Flagstaff more (or I'm biased because I used to live there!)

No matter what, Arizona in November is beautiful!

It's a really long drive to the Grand Canyon, and I don't think you'd want to be rushed there, so could you squeeze an extra day there? I went for 3 nights total, and did the overnight mule ride (which was amazing, but not something you'd want to do pregnant). We stayed the first night in the Angel something cabins, which are very basic but cute, and the last night (after the mule ride) we stayed in El Tovar lodge, which is their "fancier" hotel. Both are right in the grand canyon near the South Rim and worth the extra money over towns nearby, I think. El Tovar will definitely be more comfortable, but it's still very Grand Canyon-y, not at all like a bland generic luxury hotel or something.

That's really the only cool thing I've done in Arizona, though Scottsdale is beautiful (I've been there for conferences only).

I was going to say Grand Canyon and Sedona, but you already have that covered! What about Monument Valley?
After Scottsdale, I'd just make a path up north and fly out somewhere in northern AZ or southern UT. Scottsdale, Sedona, Grand Canyon, Monument Valley, and Canonlands and/or Arches state park if time allows.

We're heading to Arizona in November for my cousin's wedding. DH and I have a tendency to cram as much as possible into our vacations and want to do it all! I've been to Arizona once before in 6th grade and remember a little bit. DH has never been.

We'll be there a week - over Thanksgiving too. Her wedding is Saturday (when we arrive) in Scottsdale. I figure we'll be there on Sunday too.

Grand Canyon is definitely a must. I'd love to do a mule ride but since we're TTC, it's a gamble as to whether I'll be pregnant then or not. So I think we might do a Jeep tour? Any suggestions for that or places to stay in/around the Grand Canyon Park? DH would also like to check out Tombstone which is the other side of the state.

Here's what I'm thinking so far:
Saturday/Sunday - Scottsdale (wedding)
Monday - drive to Grand Canyon, stay overnight
Tuesday - Grand Canyon, drive to Sedona and stay overnight
Wednesday - Sedona, stay overnight
Thursday (Thanksgiving) - drive wherever family is for Thanksgiving
Friday - drive to Tombstone, stay overnight
Saturday - Tombstone and leave?

We haven't booked flights so don't know if we'll leave Saturday or Sunday yet.

Should I make more/less time for any of that? What about additional time in/around Phoenix?

And, most importantly, other things to see, places to eat, etc.!
