I used no pillows for nursing - laid back position was the winner for us.

Another around the belly pillow hater here - not because of disliking them touching my stomach, I could just never get the fit right for BFing. I had a couple of rectangular couch type pillows that my SIL made me just for decoration that worked perfectly. They were roughly 9x18in, I'd either use both on the side I was nursing on or one on top of the armrest of the couch or chair. Worked for 13 mos!

I used the boppy mostly, but I also used couch pillows. And, like @DesertDreams88 mentioned, once I was able to teach my girls to side lie nurse it was a game changer.

funny you mention this, the boppy didn't work for me either. I had a small throw pillow that worked mazingly! It was like trashy zebra print but I wedged it in between me and the love seat and it was just the right size. Probably like 9x12.

@Ms. RV: YES! I had an itsy-ritzy with my son. I also had a boppy. I liked them both and used whichever was closest, but my DH used the itsy far more frequently. It was easier for him (a 6ft tall, 200+ lb man) to slide the itsy on his arm before grabbing our DS for a bottle than for him to fumble with the boppy on the couch while holding DS. The itsy works well for both breast and bottle feeding (* My children were BF but needed formula supplementation). I would surely use it again if I were to have a 3rd.

Part of the reason BFing with my first failed is because I hated having a nursing pillow touch my belly. I EPed for my second (feeding tube) and now deciding between EPing and BFing with #3.

Anyone ever use an arm pillow for nursing from the newborn stage? Or something else that doesn't wrap around the belly?

Here is what I am talking about:
