I am still hanging onto my son's stuff from preschool, so don't listen to what I am about to say....

My kid is in kindergarten, and in his art class, which he has once a week, they do very targeted, multi week projects. So far, he has brought home exactly 3 projects! One I accidentally tossed and regret now, but I am saving the others as they come home very nicely matted and with an explanation of the project. I plan to photograph them and collate them into a book at some point, with the very best saved in a flat portfolio.

@winniebee: my 1st thought is "don't save it all" ha!

I know it can be hard to do though.

I save stuff in a plastic bin and then when the year os over I sort thru and pic my favorites and then rest go in the trashcan!

@PinkElephant: same! My mom gave me a bunch of stuff of mine and I saved like 3 things and tossed the rest!

I scan and upload each one. It's tedious but more consistent than taking a photo. The plan is to eventually throw out a majority and only keep favorites. I also display them on a wall and rotate every few months.

I tape art to the wardrobe we use for toy storage in the playroom...I take down seasonal ones as new ones come in, and save only the ones that I think my kids put a lot of themselves into. These tend to be things they drew/painted themselves with stories behind them, rather than the cutesy "projects". I have large cardstock velcro folios for each girl, but have to admit they're not holding up very nicely - I probably need something plastic.

The 3-D stuff, I just let them play with it until it breaks and I toss it. Unless it serves some kind of purpose (like a jewelry box she decorated as a gift for me), or that she is super duper proud of/clearly put a lot of thought into, I don't worry about keeping it. At this point, both DDs are mostly just copying from a model project, and DD2's teacher does a lot of "oversight" anyway.

I'm probably cold hearted, hehe, but my MIL just dropped off multiple giant bins of DH's childhood art and he could not care less....so I'm not feeling very motivated to save this stuff for my kids beyond a few things.

I hang them on the wall (we have a clothespin system). On the weekend, I rotate a bunch out and photograph them in the midday sun. Then I upload them to Shutterfly via app. Every other week or so I place them in an album. When the album is full, I cash in a Shutterfly free 8x8 book coupon.

Art projects from school are out of control over here! I need a way to organize the piles of art that come home every day. Does anyone have a good storage method? I'm wondering if an Art Portfolio might be the way to go? I've thought about photographing the art, but that seems incredibly time consuming at the moment.

How do you organize art?
