@ChitownRo: that link isn't working for me...booo. But I also EP and have pumped on the plane before, in my seat. I've done it 3 times now but it's super awkward and I personally wouldn't do it if I weren't next to my husband. People can DEFINITELY tell what you are doing with your giant flanges and bottles coming off your chest, even with a cover on.

No one said anything to me about it though.

I totally agree that american society is completely draconian when it comes to recognizing that mothers and babies don't belong at home 24/7. The world has changed--mothers travel, and work, and go places and we need clean changing tables, pump and breastfeeding room, etc. to accomodate this shift.

The state of maternity support in our country is so shameful. :(

Great article!!! And what a shame it is there isn't better accommodations for pumping women. Airports and hotels really should have a place for something like this!

I saw this blog post on FB and I found it interesting and exactly my experience when traveling

https://medium.com/my-modern-marriage/how-one-trip-to-the-airport-made-me-a-feminist-ac5937dcfe7a?src=soc&dom=fb

Since I was an EPer, when we flew to visit my in laws at 6 weeks pp, I looked for a place to pump to no avail. Our flight was cancelled so we had to spend a few extra hours in a crowded airport with the bathroom as the only option. Yuck and no thnk you.
My boobs were rock hard by the time we landed in chi. I pumped immediately in the car on the way home from the airport and remember that it was the first time I had to change bottles mid session bc there was so much output.

This experience definitely made me wish I breastfed rather than pumped... NIP is finally socially acceptable but pumping is not.
