We got a Raskog cart from Ikea and it's been fantastic. Pens, scissors, rulers and tape and glue go on top, paper on the bottom shelf and stickers/felt/accessories on the middle shelf.

It was important to me that my son had access to materials on his own. I didn't want to be choosing an activity for him. So, I decided that the best place for him to do projects like playdoh and painting were in the kitchen. There is nothing in that area that I can not easily clean. So, I got several storage bins and put in the art supplies. He can use them as he desires.

LO has access to everything. It is organized in a cart with drawers. She likes me to get it out for her though.

The coffee table in our tv room has four drawers and two shelves. We use those to store all of the art supplies (paint and play dough don't fit, so those are in a cabinet in the kitchen nook). Everything is organized in tubs in the drawers. DS has free access to them. He has always been very good at using them appropriately, and cleans up his mess.

@Mrs. J: yeah that's waaayyyy better than what we have going. But we don't really have any extra cabinets. We are pretty limited on storage space, especially space that's out of reach.

For us, everything is away in a cabinet, and they have to ask (3 and 17m).

How and where do you store arts and crafts? What, if any, art supplies are easily accessible to your LO and what stays out of reach and needs permission for? I basically just have most things stuffed on top of or bookshelf and am looking for a better way!
