I try to always use the cross walk, too. I don't like to jay walk. DH doesn't always obey the rules and will often jay walk if he feels the nearest cross walk is too far. I used to walk from the metro to work and at least a few times a week, some idiot tries to turn through the pedestrians like they have he right of way.
