I like to make my own lotion with shea butter, coconut oil, and a little essential oil. I just blend that up until it is super fluffy - and it makes a very heavy lotion. It would be great for ashy skin, and you can change the smell however you like.

I love this! No personal experience on it with mixed skin though. It's very moisturizing. I like the milk and honey scent and the mango mint one

@daniellemybelle: I worry because I can do it morning and night, but have to rely on someone else to do it during the day.

I do like L'occitane Shea butter, but it's really expensive. Maybe I'll try cocoa butter before jumping to Shea.

I bought her a really nice hair cream which I'll review if I like it :)

I'd try some cocoa butter. I don't like the smell personally but it is effective. Numerous lotionings may just be the norm though.

What about Almond Oil? L'Occitane's Almond Supple Skin Oil is fabulous . . . I like it better than some of their shea butter products!

DH is AA and he is addicted to Jergens Cocoa Butter lotion. He keeps a little tube of it in the car :) Unfortunately if her skin is prone to being ashy, you may just have to lotion her up throughout the day, even if you are using a good moisturizer at home (which it sounds like you are!)

@Mrs. Jacks: What about a little vaseline at bed time? I get really dry skin on my hands and that's what helps the best for me.

My littlest is mixed race and due to the hot dry weather and swimming a lot, she's becoming increasingly ashy. We already do coconut oil twice daily and that helps somewhat. It seems to me the next step is Shea Butter, which I don't really love the smell of. Does anyone have another good go to for my ashy little baby? I want her skin to be cocoa smooth and beautiful!
