Personally, if someone wanted to induce me at 32 weeks I would ask what the harm would be in waiting for a second opinion. With something like pre-e it could be a seizure so I don't think iwould wait. I don't know what the harm would be in waiting with the condition you brought up, but I always say get a second opinion if it's possible and would make you more comfortable.

I would say make sure that if you're not comfortable you keep asking questions until you are comfortable. That's great that they're not too concerned for now. Just keep informed and ask questions when you have them. At least you know you and baby will be watched closely!

@MrsF: No ones really giving any straight answers at this point. They had been putting me only with midwives for my appointments since LO1 was an uncomplicated birth (I hadn't requested that, they just chose to do that). But once I had my ultrasound they switched my chart to say OB only but then told me that I didn't really have to do that and could stick with the midwives if I wanted to. They also were kinda vague if they wanted the extra ultrasounds or not, they put it in my chart but then kinda said it's not necessary. They haven't said anything for the end of pregnancy except that they don't want me to go past my due date. I'm fine with not going past my due date, I'm just worried that after reading some of the baby boards of others with the same finding that they might not keep the same attitude as things move along and want to make sure I'm kept in the loop with their plan.

I don't see that the additional monitoring will necessarily link with early induction. I had cord issues and possible iugr and it led to once weekly US and bed rest and trying to cook the baby as long as possible. I went to 40 and 1.

I have to admit I didn't question my doctor's decision to induce for pre-e (and I'm a nurse! I'm always questioning doctors' decisions!). I was 36 weeks though and M didn't need any time in the NICU. If you feel uncomfortable though I would definitely speak up sooner rather than later. Are you going to be referred to a high-risk OB? I don't know if that would be appropriate in your case but it would be an automatic second opinion. Either way make sure you keep a good dialogue with your Dr and don't stop asking questions until you feel comfortable. They could never blame you for advocating for yourself and your baby.

They're going to monitor me for intrauterine growth restriction (IUGR) because of a condition with the umbilical cord. The studies are all over the place with whether IUGR is really an associated issue or not but I am thankful for the extra monitoring just in case, since it would be a serious issue.

However, one thing both DH and I are worried about is that with the extra monitoring will end up leading to a premature induction. The hospital I'm going to is a very good teaching hospital but they do have a higher than average intervention rate. I was a small baby, DH was a small baby, and LO1 was a small baby so I think our curve is a bit different than the average American curve. Also some of the stories I'm reading from people who have the same condition are quite early inductions (like 32-34 weeks) and then the baby ended up not having had IUGR.

If your doctor pushed for early induction did you question it at all and if so how did you go about asking for more info or tests or a second opinion to make sure you weren't bringing a preemie into the world unnecessarily.
