@mrbee: OK, I read "aren't" instead of "are". Of course they will be grateful, but I don't think that means that they will be annoyed at the parents who don't bring things in. I am grateful to parents who send their children to school with the supplies they need. I'm even more grateful to parents who donate things for the class. I'm not sure why this is unfair, though. It's not that I have ill-will towards those who can't provide supplies, it's that I appreciate those who do.

Maybe I'm confused. I just spent quite a while grading some papers and I'm a bit out of it now.

I am a first grade teacher and I promise there is no biased by me on if a parent can help out and donate supplies, with that said that same parent might buy all the materials for the class but never help kiddo with spelling words or projects
I as a teacher yes take it with much gratitude but the thankfulness stops there!

@meganmp: I think maybe he means the teacher might have a slight bias towards those parents who buy the supplies versus those who do not which may translate to favoring those children. But I could be mistaken. That's how I read this question.

@meganmp: Just the opposite! The more affluent parents buy the supplies, and the teacher is very vocally appreciative when they bring them in.

I usually send a bag of supplies to the office with DS's teachers name but I don't write our names so it's kind of anonymous. Unless the office staff tell her but I doubt it.

I'm kind of confused by your question- are you worried that people who didn't contribute are going to get credit for buying things?

Our son's Kindergarten class has a couple of post-its on a piece of paper outside the door, with items like "Stapler" and "erasers" on it. Parents are asked to grab the post-its of items they don't mind buying, then to buy the supplies and bring them in.

It makes sense that now that schools are underfunded, parents are helping fund the supplies that the school used to purchase. I don't mind it, but it seems a little unfair: aren't teachers going to be grateful and appreciative to the parents who are able to buy the supplies?
