@Sugar.Biscuit: I know you already decided not to but I didn't get one simply because I'd be worrying all the time..with twins it'd be even more complicated. Hopefully you have a wonderful experience with your extra scans. :)

I've read all your opinions & have done enough research to go against it. I love the idea of it but the risks & fears that will go through my mind aren't worth it. Also I have read stories where it gives woman a false sense of hope when the baby stops moving & they can still hear the heartbeat. I will have enough scans with the twins to get me by & like others have said if something is wrong then I'd rather find out at a Doctors office.

@PurplePeony: I was also thinking that some women may have something happen, say a fall at home, and check themselves on their own Doppler and think everything is okay, and NOT go to the hospital to get properly checked out.

I agree with @Mrs. Jacks: especially the twins part. Our OB even sometimes had a hard time figuring out on the Doppler if they were getting both babies heartbeats, and I think it would have led to a lot of stress if I wasn't sure I was getting both little guys. I know it gets harder and harder as they get squished together more and more, too. Personally, I found twin pregnancy to be pretty stressful with the additional risks, so I think I would have been tempted to use it every single day to make sure they were okay, which would have led to inevitable scares. We had ultrasounds quite often since they were mono-di, so I did at least have that reassurance.

We decided against it ... I am not a natural worrier, but we thought being unable to find the HB might make us worry. I do think it would be SO fun to hear baby each night though!!

We got a fetal stethoscope. I couldn't consistently hear the heartbeat until 20+ weeks, though. I liked it because most nights before bed we'd listen to his heartbeat (even though we could feel him move).

I love mine. Having had a previous m/c, I needed the reassurance in between appointments. I received mine at 8 weeks, but didn't consistently find the heartbeat each time until 10-11 weeks. It also helps because at this stage (20 weeks), I don't feel movements everyday, but I can hear him kick and move around when I use the doppler.

I bought one and couldn't find a heartbeat until 15 weeks! Dang anterior placenta. So, if it will stress you out more to look for the heartbeat and not find it, than to live in the unknown, then I wouldn't get it. There were times when I didn't feel LO move for a bit or had a bad dream or something, and then hearing the heartbeat was really reassuring.

@Mrs. Jacks: I completely agree with you. Also, I feel like the potential risks of increased use, particularly by non-professionals, haven't been studied enough to make me comfortable with the idea. Plus, they aren't going to stop something going wrong if that's what's going to happen -- all it will do is allow you to find out a bit sooner. TBH, if I was going to get bad news, I'd rather be at the doctor's office where they are trained to help deal with it than at home where I'd just totally freak out...but I know others may feel differently.

I bought one against the advice of DH, my mom, and my BFF. I only tried to use it a handful of times and I only tried after I had a ultrasound, which I did at each appointment, so I knew the heartbeat was there and baby was ok. I could never find it on my own. Soon I felt baby moving and she hasn't stopped since. I just sold it because I never used it and would then stress because I couldn't find anything. I also had the mindset that having a Doppler wasn't going to change anything in God's plan.

We passed. Even our OB used an ultrasound at every appt bc doppler is less reliable finding two. You'll get to see them every few weeks anyway, and you may feel kicks earlier with two.

i rented one with charlie and i used it very sparingly -- once or twice a week at the most. but i had had two miscarriages so it did provide a lot of peace of mind. i never had trouble finding the heartbeat. i had it for about 2 months before i could start feeling the kicks and didn't need it anymore.

with twins you will probably be getting more than average ultrasounds, so i probably wouldn't get one, but i think it depends on how much of a worry wart you are. your ob will probably be against you getting one.

I voted yes. We had a complication early on and were at a high risk to miscarry, I was able to find the heartbeat at 14 weeks and would check once a week until we were in the clear. It really gave us peace of mind. There are you tube videos and various other things that will tell you how to position it and find the heartbeat!

I did not buy one on purpose since I didn't want to worry myself if I couldn't find it and I'm so glad I held off since I started feeling movement around 17 weeks so there is really no need for it after that. In those early days though, I know it gave a lot of other bee's peace of mind to use it, but I personally didn't want to go there since I really don't know what I'm doing and the way I saw it - if there is no more heartbeat to detect it's not like you can do anything about it anyway (sorry I know that's depressing, but it's how I felt ultimately).

I love having mine. I had an early loss before and it's been really nice every few days to once a week checking in on him. I'm at 19.5 weeks and still not really feeling movement, and I've been using the doppler since 6 weeks. I will say though, that you have to not freak out if you don't hear it, and just try again later. I have no idea how it would work with twins though. You may get a false sense of security if you always hear one heartbeat?

I would highly suggest watching a couple YouTube videos on how to use it because I wasn't doing it right at first.

I bought one on eBay early in my pregnancy, and spent hours searching for the heartbeat. Since I'm not a professional, I had a really hard time finding the HB and often confused my own with baby's.

It was easier to find further along into my pregnancy, but at that point I could feel movement and wasn't nearly as worried as I was in the beginning!
