I don't think I attended a bday party alone until 3rd or 4th grade! I think it will always depend on the situation and if I trust the other parents enough to leave my child alone.

Kindergarden, I dropped my niece off at a party for her friend, it would have been weird if I stayed!

My DD is 5, and all of the parties are still parent-attended. I expect that to change next year, though, but we'll see. Since she has a peanut allergy, I may actually opt to stay to check out the food situation.

I just went to one this weekend and a few kids were dropped off. It was at a play gym, though, so no real extra work for the hosts. I stayed with my DD. The kids are 4.

I'm pretty sure as soon as I was in Kindergarten (aged 4) my mom stopped being there when I went to friends' houses, including birthday parties. This is why I could only invite 5 people to my party, so my parents wouldn't have to watch more kids than that.

I never went to a birthday party unattended as a child. I suspect this might be a cultural or family preference?

My oldest just went to his first solo party this year {sixth grade} but had been asking for some time.

5 years old. Before then most of the parties I have attended are still attended by family friends and their kids.

I think elementary school, just for the parents' sake. I think that's when they start following directions better and I wouldn't feel as bad leaving LO with potentially flustered parents.

J1 is in the 1st grade. This has been this first year that parents have had drop off parties. I would say 50% or so have been that way.

Preschool but only if 1.) the parents are the ones to initiate the idea of you dropping them off and 2.) your child is familiar with the parents. C recently attended one of his daycare friend's party and they specifically let me know that we were welcome to drop C off as they had a plethora of adults in town to supervise if we wanted. C also knows them well because the kid's grandmother comes in every single week to read stories with his class. In that situation, I would be comfortable dropping him off and leaving but since I didn't know the parents well, I took the opportunity to stay and get to know them some.

I didn't really start attending non-family birthday parties until elementary school, and I don't remember my mom ever hanging around at them, unless she was god friends with their mom or something.

We have been to lots of 5yr parties and the parents still stay but I do think 5-6 is probably when you can drop off and leave

Seriously, don't you remember the days where your parents just dropped you off at a birthday party and the hosts were the ones who supervised the kids?
