I don't know yet. This will be our first winter in this apartment, so I don't know how well insulated it is. The weather has been mild the last few weeks, but definitely not cold, and it's supposed to be in the low 70s this week!

Its about 45F outside this weekend (7C), and our heat is on. Its about 68F in the house right now, and I can turn the fireplace on to warm it up a bit more.
But...turning the heat on in September isn't really that rare here.

Oh my gosh, these threads always crack me up. We keep the house at 71, no matter the time of year. My husband doesn't do well with it any hotter, and I don't do well with it any cooler. We work too hard to not enjoy ourselves at home by being too hot/chilly!

When I'm uncomfortably chilly in my house with a long sleeve shirt and a blanket, I turn on the heat. I have never really paid attention to when that happens or the exact number. I think in the winter we usually keep the house around 68 once we turn the heat on.

Low sixties is pretty chilly inside! I don't like to be too warm in the house but sometimes I'll turn it on just to warm it up a bit, then turn it off/down again.

We hold off until later on turning the whole house heat by using a heated mattress pad and heated throw blankets. I'll probably turn the heat on when it is staying below 65 inside. We'll probably eke out a few bonus days of no heat by baking.

Basically below 63 is when I will turn the heat on unless I don't feel super cold, if I'm just chilly at that point I'll just put on more layers.

We were in the same boat today. It was 62 in our house this morning and only in the 40s outside. Luckily, it never went below 60 today, and the indoor temp finally crept back up to 68. Tomorrow should be warmer. I was so cold, but just can't fathom turning on the heat this early in the fall.

@Adira: I'm with you, I like to be warm in my house. Especially with LO, I don't want it to be cold in here at night.

We keep it about 71-72 inside. I turned the heat on the other day when it got cold, but today it warmed up a bit so I turned the heat down.

We did last night! It was in the 40s during the day and I'm not sure how cold it got overnight. I turned it to 75 and off this morning. I am lucky I suppose, we have solar that mostly pays for the radiant heat floors. I run at like 96 degrees, I can't sleep if I'm cold!

I don't mess around with being too cold or too hot! If it drops below 71 degrees the heat kicks on, and if it rises above 73 the A/C kicks on. Worth the money to me!
