@Espion: same. I avoid the doctor at all costs.

I had a fever last night so this feels pretty fitting right now. I brought it down with Advil and a cold, damp cloth.

I would go in if it lasts more than a day or if I started getting delirious with the fever.

I rarely get a fever. I agree with other posters that I would go in for a 105+ fever or one that was persistent and wasn't going down with tylenol / lasted several days.

My husband pretty much never goes in, but I wish he would because both times he ended up having the real flu but missed the Tamiflu window.

I always just go unless it's a low fever. I like to get the underlying cause treated when it's not viral. The past two times I had a fever, I had a UTI and Strep, two things that aren't worth waiting for.

I'd call the nurse hotline but fevers have always come down with tylenol for me...and usually there's something else going on that I'm more concerned with. If I thought it was the flu, I'd probably try to get some tamiflu

I think I'd have to have a fever for a few days with no respite before I went to the doc (obviously without any other symptons). If there were additional symptoms, I would reconsider.

I try really hard not to go to the doctor unless I think it's something I think is infected or something that I can't get rid of with rest and hydration...

Depends on what by other symptoms are! Probably 105+ is when I'd go in, or at least call my clinics triage line

I'm more concerned about length of fever than how high it goes. If I have a fever for 3 days in a row I call my gp and ask if I should come in or ride it out.

@Mrs. Jacks: I agree. I didn't know that about fevers until Chloe had one (hers was 105.5) and the ER doctor told us the same thing- that your brain shuts off as a defense mechanism so there's really no such thing as a too high fever, and it's the symptoms that tell you there's a problem and not the numbers. I've been told my whole life that a high fever can cause brain damage and he was like whoa, that's not true at all.

I very rarely get high fevers. Everytime I've had a fever over 101-102, I've had either strep, the flu, or mastitis. So I go to my doctor or urgent care (not the ER), because it usually means I need an antibiotic or Tamiflu.

Hope you feel better soon!

I called once at 104 because I was scared....I never have a fever, even when I feel pretty crummy. Turns out I had the flu. :( but they didn't have me come in. Just told me to rest and drink lots of fluids.

For just a fever, I cant see myself going in period. It would be other associated symptoms that might make me consider it.

Yes, agreed--depends on symptoms surrounding. I had a mild fever (101-102) and intense back pain last year and warranted an urgent care visit-pneumonia and kidney infection.

If it was only a fever, even if it was just high, I'd prob ride it out.

I knew I had pneumonia so I went in. Think my temp was 103/104. It took a few days to get the energy to go to the doctor. Feel better!

No set level. People fear fevers, but it's more about how the rest of you is feeling. I had 105.5 when I had flu as a resident and I felt so bad that I couldn't have gotten to a doctor if I tried. And I lived in a mountain town with no good health care. So I just laid on the floor and thought I might die.

It's the associated symptoms that tell you if you should go in.

That said, fevers suck and I'm so glad yours broke!
