DD is 5 yo and still just 40 lbs. She's in a Diono Radian which is a convertible/high back booster, so she's in a 5 point harness too, and will be for a loooong while I think.

But she does use a travel booster when in cabs (when we travel) or in her friends' cars for playdates.

I got a Graco My Ride 65 which is a 65lb weight limit. It was about $120.

I think there is a Cosco one that WalMart carries that has a higher weight limit that is well rated.

@purrpletulips: we have a britax frontier 85 http://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B0038W0JI0. We also have a frontier 85 sict in the grandparents car. It's like th frontier 85 with side impact. I'm happy with both. I think there are only a few brands that make the combination booster with harness. I think recaro is another one.

@Mrsbells: I'm not a car seat expert, but seems like the high weight seats could be useful if your child stays within the height range of the seat. You could potentially use the convertible for quite a while and only have to buy a standard booster once the height is maxed out. In our case, we needed to pass down the convertibles to DS, but wanted to keep DD in a harness so we opted for the combination booster, which will convert to true booster when she maxes out the weight limit. What is a chapter seat that you are referring to?

My son is 3 and he's still in a convertible. We plan on moving him into a booster in a few months because my DD will need that convertible once she grows out of her infant car seat. He's tall and heavy for his age so I feel comfortable putting him in a booster. He's 35lbs.

My DD was 35 lb and 4 yr when we moved her to a combination harness to booster (booster with 5 pt harness). She still uses the harness right now. We also have her in a convertible car seat in another car since she has not exceeded weight or height limits, but will probably get another harness to booster soon since its a lot more roomy. We passed her old convertible (all mentioned here are britax) down to DS.

I am looking to get a second convertible seat for dh's car. And i am trying to spend less money on it but i hasn't noticed that the chapter seats have a lower Max weight. The seat we have now is a britax and the Max weight is 70lbs, but sue of the chapter seats have a Max of 40lbs. So i am curious to know what weight your LO was when you stopped using your convertible
