@autumnleaves: thanks for this info!! appreciate it :)

@hummusgirl: I'll look into the science museum! Thanks for that info! Yeah...my son has been to an aquarium once and it was such a waste of money for us because he couldn't have cared less. Weird! Oh well. Haha.

@krispi: Ahhhh, ok thank you for differentiating! I will check it out. We will probably be staying out of the more touristy areas for food if/when we can help it. I'll check out the pizza place though!

Fernbank isn't free, but isn't too terribly expensive. It's about $25 per ticket. You want the Natural History Museum (the one with the dinosaurs), not the Science Center. The Science Center is more of a planetarium - probably better for older kids. Here's a link to the indoor area I was thinking of. It was really fun when my daughter's pre-k class went for a field trip (pre-pandemic). https://www.fernbankmuseum.org/experiences/exhibits/indoor-exhibits/naturequest/

For restaurants, we mostly tend to stay closer to home. If you go to the zoo, there's a great pizza place very close by called Grant Central that's kid-friendly - and the pizza is good too.

We went recently. My kids didn't love the aquarium but maybe they're just weird? It had a lot to look at but they like more interactive places where you can actually do things (like our sad/depressing aquarium in a strip mall that lets you touch all kind of animals). For us it wasn't worth the money, but if you do go I suggest doing the 4D movie. There's a city pass where you can go to a few different museums including the aquarium.

It was about an hour away but my kids really liked the Tellus Science Museum. It had a gold/gem mining area that they were obsessed with and we got tickets to the planetarium show.

I've heard good things about the College Football Hall of Fame (even if you're not that into football) but we didn't have time to go.

@togetherthroughlife: I think if you aren’t staying near the aquarium, centennial park is not a must. It was nice for us to have the playground near the hotel. There is shade there and between the playground and the Ferris wheel at the other end you can spend several hours there but I am not sure if the playground alone would entertain my kids for several hours. The park also could be closed if an event is going on there. When we arrived on a Monday, the park was closed for cleanup following an event that ended Sunday and it didn’t reopen till late Tuesday. The Ferris wheel is outside of that and we went when there was no wait so they let us go around twice as long. Seeing the city skyline was cool and 1 of my kids had not been on a Ferris wheel before and the other only 1 time in a department store so we splurged and got the photos too lol.

Thanks everyone for your feedback! It sounds like the aquarium is very loved! We've only ever done an aquarium once and it was a huge waste of money for us because my kid wasn't interested at all (I know...) so we didn't spend a lot of time inside and I've shied away from aquariums ever since! :/

@autumnleaves: Did you guys do the Ferris wheel? I thought it seemed kind of overpriced for what it is but I'm not sure! I don't think we will do world of coke. We don't love the touristy stuff in most cities so I was planning on trying to stay away from that area for the most part! Do you think the centennial park playground / splash pad (if you did that) area would be good to spend a couple hours during the day? Are there shady spots?

@krispi: Hey thank you so much! This is all super helpful. I don't think we'll take a stroller on the trip as our 2 year old is super independent and won't really ride it. I hadn't heard of Fernbank but looked it up and it sounds cool! Their website doesn't have much info about the play area you mentioned though, can you tell me more? It also looks like this is a free place to visit? I'm wondering if you have any suggestions for kid-friendly restaurants (non-touristy would be great!) with relatively good deals on food and/or where the food is served quickly!

@bakingdoodle: Full disclosure, I'm NOT looking forward to the lego place. I can't stop thinking about all the germs...haha. But both my kids are currently Lego obsessed and it just makes sense to at least pay it a visit ONE time. I appreciate your thoughts on it!

@Bluemasonjar: Thank you! I'll look up Goldbergs. I haven't been to a Braves game since Turner Field (waaaah)...in fact we were at the final game there! It was really special. So I'm excited to finally check out the new stadium. Any other advice for around Truist or advice for attending a game there in terms of seating? We are looking at day games so I'm hoping for shade. :)

I live in one of the suburbs of Atlanta and have two boys similar ages to yours. The aquarium would be my top recommendation and @krispi already hit all the reasons why we love the zoo, so much to do there.

We haven't been to Legoland in a few years but I was underwhelmed. My kids love running around the green space and in the fountains at the Battery outside Truist park and you can grab drinks from Goldbergs and carry them around with you to pre-game.

I went to two Lego Discovery Centers (one in Tokyo and the one in Somerville, MA close to where we live) and I don't recommend them. Lego doesn't even own them. I think you're better off playing with your own legos at home (and it's cleaner!). There's an exhibit about the monuments (so in Tokyo, you could see the tokyo tower made from legos... and in somerville, you saw Fenway park...) In Somerville, the first thing was to 'make' your own mini figure, using some controls that simulated the process. It took literally 3 min ... my kids didn't know how to do it. You could pick eyes.. hair color, outfit and etc... then in the end... YOU GOT NOTHING. it was just a simulation. The ride where you play the video is good.... The food at the cafe is COLD and bad. ... I would pick going to the aquarium...

Atlanta native here. The aquarium is amazing, but it's not very stroller friendly. There are a lot of areas that aren't accessible to a stroller. You may want to have a back up plan for your toddler if they wouldn't want to walk a lot.

We weren't super impressed with the Children's Museum, but I know a lot of people like it.

If you're in that area (Aquarium, Children's Museum, World of Coke), Centennial Park has a large fountain/splash area that kids like to play in.

You may also want to check out Fernbank. It's a science museum that's not too far from downtown and has a nice play area inside as well as an outdoor area.

I know you're mostly interested in indoor activities, but the Zoo here is really kid friendly. And it IS easy to navigate the zoo with a stroller. They also have a large splash pad, playground, and a couple of rides (train/carousel) inside the zoo, along with a petting zoo that's great for smaller kids.

I live in the city and was born and raised in the area, so I'm happy to answer as many questions as I can. :)

We went to Atlanta in the fall specifically to go to the Georgia Aquarium - it is an awesome aquarium. We stayed at a hotel across the street. In that same area there is the World of Coca-cola, Centennial Park (has a playground), the Children's Museum, and a ferris wheel..

I haven’t been to Atlanta as an adult, but I still remember going to the Georgia Aquarium 20 years ago—they had a whale shark and a ray that I swear was the size of a small car. Tween me was very impressed. Have fun!

I've never been but I've heard nothing but good things about the aquarium there.

I also did a quick google search on local playgrounds and the Chastain Park Playground looks awesome.

I hope you have a blast!

Hi! Wondering if anyone has any tips or suggestions for Atlanta with two kids, one toddler and one school aged. We will do a Braves game, the Legoland Discovery Center, and the children museum. Not sure what else! I think there’s a splash pad at Piedmont Park? It’s been a few years since we’ve been (we only had one kid last time) and we will be going in the summer so I need suggestions that don’t require burning up outdoors in the sun all the time! I know a lot has changed in some places due to Covid so I’m not even sure some of our previous favorite things are open!
