Good luck to you and your baby. I don't think you have to necessarily worry about stores being closed that morning. I bet the stores along the parade route will be open because of the increased foot traffic.

Are you driving in or taking the train? If you drive, then you can do the baby stuff in the car. If not, then there will be restaurants and coffee shops you can pop into. I also suggest going to the Upper West Side. I used to live there and viewed the parade a few times and it is not too crowded. @Looch's suggestion of going the day before is great! Also keep in mind that it is usually pretty cold that day so bundle up if you go!

Good luck to you! Do you have any friends in the area? I only attended twice, both times when I lived on the UWS. Another option if you don't want to brave the crowds is to go the night before, when the balloons are all blown up and see them that way.

I am mom to a 10-month old baby boy and we'll be travelling to Long Island to visit family for Thanksgiving. We are really hoping to attend the Macy's Thanksgiving day parade in NYC, but the logistics kind of terrify me. Especially worried about where we will nurse & change baby when all the stores are closed for the holiday. Has anyone attended and have tips for me? Am I insane to even try to attend with a baby?
