@meredithNYC: I'm curious about this clock concept! At the moment Norah wakes up and within a few minutes is crying "mommy mommy" but maybe if she had something visual to help her stay in her crib and play. Good idea!

My little one is only 9 months. But I had a friend tell her daughter that she couldn't get up until the clock said 7 00. She was older and could recognize numbers. One morning she slept all the way until 8 - and then never got out of bed. When my friend asked why she said "I was waiting for the clock to say 7 oh oh." :)

But could you do a lamp on a timer? She can get out of bed when the lamp comes on? Not sure if she is old enough for it to work, but its an idea?

@looch: Yep. Exactly this. If I don't get a good 8-12 stretch, my night is pretty much shot. Sigh.

I don't have two kids, but I have an early riser and the only way I can deal with it is to go to bed really early. My best stretch of sleep is between 8 and midnight.

My SIL is going through this right now and it's rough! Is there any way you can "train" your LO to hang out in her crib until a certain time? We have started using a Gro Clock with LO and while I don't think she totally gets the concept, she will hang out in her crib and play (she has about a million stuffed animals in there) and talk to herself until the sun comes up on the clock, indicating that it's time to get up.

This is why I am in no rush to get C out of the crib before the baby. I have been works on just going to bed earlier and will likely do that even earlier when the baby is here

I don't know how I handle it - oh wait yes I do - DS was still in his crib so he had to stay there while I nursed DD and showered!

DS will be 6 next month and he still doesn't sleep much - I am still holding out hope for those teenage years where kids sleep till noon but its not looking likely for my DS :silly:

Same as @Sparkler. My husband usually gets up with #1 and lets me have an extra hour or so until I go back to work.

I have an early rising toddler. My husband got up with #1 and I would sleep in until 7 or 730. Good luck!

I have an early riser. It is something we have tried to change with no success so now at almost 2 years old we have come to accept and embrace the fact that she likes to go to bed early (7pm) and wake up early (5:30 to 6am).

My question is how did you deal with a new baby and the sleep deprivation that comes with it and your early riser older child? I am so excited for a new baby but absolutely TERRIFIED of being up all night with a baby and then up for the day at 5:30 :bummed:
