I have never shaved, I've been getting brazilians for years so that's what I did. I usually leave a little landing strip but I was having a C section and didn't know if they would want to clip or anything so I just had her take everything off.

I couldn't see anything but shaved by feel. My midwife told me that it was fine to trim but be careful to leave your perineum au natural because if you tear and need repairs the last thing you want is for it to be itchy for the time you can't shave while everything heals in that area.

I usually trim. Anything else is just paying too much attention to my womanly bits. My skin's too sensitive for shaving and waxing is just too much of a pain and hassle.

Though it'll probably be difficult to trim when I'm that big so I'll likely just let it be. I doubt anyone would care - in fact, I would hope they're paying more attention to other things aside from my pubes!

I have a trimmer at home--I can't see what I'm doing anymore, but I can't hurt myself doing it either. It's not the most even, but it's less itchy for me than au natural.

Also, the doctors and nurses have seen it all. I actually had my OB/GYN several years ago practically yell at me for shaving because it was giving me little red bumps which might become ingrown hairs and could lead to infection--so the doctors/nurses might appreciate au natural more than anything else.

I think trimmed is how I will be. My skin reacts horribly to shaving and wxing that part of my body which I have ried so many times. My skin breaks out and freaks out. Anyone else? I always thought it was weird.

@cupcakemama: i'm only 23, and i don't get it either! i want to look like a woman--not a 10 year old! i don't get the whole hairless trend... but to each her own.

i figure, everyone in there will be seeing you split in two and pooping, so why bother? maybe a trim up for sanitation purposes, but are you really worried about how it looks to the doctors and nurses?

I also couldn't see to shave, so I let it go wild. I figured they are used to it because most women can't see their who ha anymore. And really, when I was delivering lo I wasn't thinking about how hairy I was, I was thinking "I bet this baby coming out of my who ha looks freaky! "

I'll probably trim or keep it natural. I've shaved down there before and it was nice until the hair started coming in. Yup, I don't think it's worth it... all that itching! Haha. Good thing, the DH doesn't like it all shaven down there.

I've read that shaving prior to delivery can increase your chances of tearing, because the razor leaves tiny abrasions on your skin. I think not shaving or waxing would probably be the safest way to go.

I seem to be allergic to most every type of wax going so that's out, and we mustn't use depilatory creams in case chemicals get into bloodstream, (stoopid restrictions) and I think the itch would drive me insane if the shave fell more than 24 hours pre-hospital, so I think a nice tight trim will just have to do. They're going to see poo, blood, tears, snot probably, so I think some hair won't kill them:)

I'll have a brazilian, as thats my usual upkeep. I think it will make me feel cleaner in the period after she's born - I'm not worried so much about the birth process itself as I'm sure the OB has seen everything! I plan to get waxed again a few weeks before I'm due - IMO, waxing doesn't hurt that much, I don't mind it.

Clearly I am a different generation as I don't get the absolute dusgust of pubic hair. God forbid you should look like a woman who has passed through puberty.

Anyway, I digress. I don't think the hospital staff care one way or the other. I trimmed before, basically the same as I had through pregnancy. I'm fairly sure my OB wasn't grossed out.(especially as OB's don't generally recommend brazilians). He didn't care that I pooped so I'm sure some hair wasn't an issue

I was able to shave myself completely until the end of my pregnancy, just maybe not as perfectly, so I was hairless for delivery. I don't know if I would have waxed if I couldn't have shaved...maybe?! What's important is your healthy little baby :)

I'll probably trim before giving birth. If I can't see down there, I don't want to take a razor anywhere near the under parts!! Oh and I've never been waxed down there and never plan to.... I was reading my Mayo Clinic book last night and passed by a topic on shaving. Someone asked if they shave you for birth. Essentially the book said, they have seen it all so don't worry about it. What matters most is that little baby coming out of there.

usually I shave as well, but, like you said it's really hard to reach/see everything. so I've been au natural & have trimmed the main part & shaved the bikini area every time before going to see the dr. when I actually go into labour I'll do that before we go to the hospital, too. growing a wax back out is iiiitchy & I don't think that's something I'm going to want to have to worry about post birth

also, I have a couple of friends who are L&D nurses & they say that it's a lot easier to clean up things during & after if it's not wild & crazy bushy. so I'd recommend {based on their advice} to at least trim it all up before you go in even if you don't wax

So, Usually I am a 100% shaven girl, however its been veeeery hard to look down there as I am 5 weeks away from my due date so I have been au natural for about a month. I am wondering if there is a better option for labor, and post labor .....
I am contemplating going to get a Brazilian so that I don't look freaky during childbirth (yeah I know it will hurt, but hey compared to child birth I'm sure its a breeze!)... but at the same time.... I am not sure it will make THAT much more of a difference.
would one way be better than the other? from experience, did you regret being au natural or being bare? maybe one felt cleaner, easier for healing and after-care?

HELP!

I think I am even going to ask my nurse practitioner for her opinion!
