@T.H.O.U.: I have an iPad list I made for DH (to encourage him to help me with my nesting to-do's). He works long hours so usually we work on the bigger projects on the weekend. I've come to accept that our house won't be spotless when bringing home baby like with DD. I also am fearful I'll go into labor and our house will be trashed for my in-laws to come over and watch DD. Sigh!!!

@swurlygurl: DD is about to turn 18-months and I'm pretty sure she has no clue what's really going on. We talk about the baby in my tummy and she kisses baby a lot, but I'm doubting she really understands. I make a point to bring her in his nursery daily and talk to her about baby brother's room. She also puts her dolls in the swing and it's so cute! I have a feeling "gentle" will be my most overused word in about a month!

I wrapped a book to give DD at the hospital when she comes to visit (she loves books but I'm guessing the wrapping paper will thrill her more) and have two more books for her to open at home while I'm in the hospital. I also want to get her a stuffed animal, but she has so many already! I took her to the store to pick something out for her brother (pretty sure she picked it out for herself) and she choose a Winnie the Pooh toy.

@T.H.O.U.: yup, he wrote down a list of of things that need to get down before baby arrives. Then we ordered in priority. Finish ductwork, stain counters, install backsplash, wiring in basement, etc. That's not even including stuff for baby!

There's no way any of that will get done if he doesn't work on it during weeknights. Yesterday he got home at 4 and was working till 9pm to get our ductwork finished so that our AC system is completely up and running.

@swurlygurl: does the doll come with a diaper, bottle, pack, etc? Maybe you can buy a kit for the doll?

@swurlygurl: My DD is turning 3 next month so she gets that a baby is coming out. But I don't think she fully grasps that the baby is going to require a lot of attention and her routine is going to change.

@swurlygurl: I'm thinking the baby may give her a "Big Sister" necklace. I want something not super cheap but nothing like from a jewelry store either.

ETA: My other thought was to get her a mini baby carrier (like a Mei Tei) so she can "carry" her baby dolls.

Our problem is that she likes little trinkets. The balloon from the grocery store (thats deflated), a foam crown from a birthday party, a half cut up magazine she was using for a craft project, her flash cards, etc. I'm not worried about the toys, but girl friend has a ton of clutter!

Anyone have kids old enough to understand what's happening? I've been increasing the 'baby-in-tummy' talk lately, and talking about what things are for the baby in Mommy's tummy, and what the baby will need to do, where the baby will sleep, etc. She definitely has no idea what I'm talking about though... haha.
She does put her baby in the baby swing and push her, which is so adorable! I need to work on gentle pushes - it gets a little wild!

@T.H.O.U.: HAHA - there is no cleaning. Like you said, mission impossible! I do have the nursery cleaned up, but I need to go back in and dust/re-vacuum. Apparently that room gets crazy dusty when not in use. There's a layer of dust on the rocker and I dusted everything just a month ago! I don't really mind having L's toys making a mess - I've made peace with it because otherwise it would be a never-ending game of putting them away :(

@locavore_mama: I really wanted to give L a doll at the hospital, but my parents got her one when we went to visit them a month ago.

@T.H.O.U.: I can't figure out anything for baby to 'give' L at the hospital. :bummed: Maybe a book? L does LOVE books... I bought Sis a stuffed puppy, and I'm thinking of having it at the hospital and letting L give it to her.

@locavore_mama: My DH is great too, but I just told him last night, we have got to start working on projects and cleaning on weeknights too. Last night we got our big living room rug vacuumed and deodorized so that was a help. We just don't have enough weekends anymore to try to get it all done on the weekends! And then he tells me he's golfing on Sunday!

@T.H.O.U.: DH. He's amaze balls. And LO helps with clean up. We clean up every night before bedtime or before dinner depending on how big of a mess she made.

I've I've decided to bite the bullet and buy her a baby doll with a hospital take home kit. We'll give it to her when she comes visit baby sister in the hospital. It'll be "from" baby sister.

I feel like I have so much more to get ready for DD. Here is my list:

1) Schedule her birthday party (friend to come over, order cupcakes, etc). Probably the 9th of August. Wrap her birthday presents

2) Order a big sister shirt/outfit

3) Finalize arrangements for her care when we are gone. Type up instruction sheets and phone number lists for family and friends that are helping.

4) Big sister gift for her from the baby? Take her to pick out a gift for the baby?

5) Set up a bucket or bin of activities she can pull out when I'm nursing. I have a few things set aside like a coloring poster, fancy stickers, new books, lacing cards, etc. Just need to pull it all together.

Lastly, how in the world are you guys cleaning/nesting with a toddler in the house. My house is NEVER clean and I can't keep it picked up (WOHM). I am starting to panic my house will be a mess and someone will have to come stay there and be mortified! I can either stay on top of toys, or housework, or laundry but can't seem to keep all three up at all times!!

To Do List Accomplishment - Last night I got some of D's fall clothes organized and sorted. So she has a stack of fall clothes and a stack of spring clothes ready to be brought out for the next two seasons! Its mostly hand me down stuff we have but at least its sorted and ready to be pulled out.

Are you guys ordering a special shirt/outfit for your older ones? D has a basic t shirt that says big sister that she can wear to daycare, but not sure if I want to order something else for actually visiting at hospital and with family.

@swurlygurl: that is the exact scenario i am hoping for as well!! and i totally understand about the IL's. i feel the exact same way. my IL's are my last resort choice just bc mil annoys the crap out of me. she has two sons, no daughters and so i think she tries to make it up by treating my daughter like shes hers!! ugh anyway, i could rant for hours but i soooo hope i go into labor during the day, so LO will be at daycare, then I will also want DH to be home with LO at nighttime. This scenario would work out perfectly if my labor happens exactly like it did last time.... but what are the chances of that :-) my parents are nearby too so i'm just hoping they will answer the phone if i need them! i don't want to call mil!

Well, apparently this was decided FOR me. (I'm a little cranky about this, but I'm blaming pregnancy hormones because it's seriously no big deal...)

*Warning, really ridiculous and stupid vent ahead*

It's obvious that MIL and FIL will take care of L whenever I go into labor. They live like 2 minutes from us, and they gladly watch their grandkids whenever they can. No fear of inconveniencing them with a 2 am wake up call, they're always more than happy to help. Anyway, it wasn't actually discussed, and I hadn't actually *asked* yet, and a couple weekends ago MIL just starts talking about how she's going to be watching L for us and how 'Haha I hope swurlygurl doesn't go into labor in the middle of the night!' and just other random normal crap that someone on-call would say. Really annoyed me though... I wish that she wasn't the only obvious choice. I'm super bitter that my parents live so far away and she gets all the time with L that she gets. (And my ILs are AMAZING - I really have nothing to complain about). And then she goes on to talk about how she's excited to get to keep L for a couple days while we're all in the hospital. Yeah... NO. DH is going to spend nights at home with L - I'm trying to keep L as much on her schedule as possible!! So now I'm evil-y hoping that I go into labor at like 7 am on Monday morning so L goes to daycare per normal, I have the baby sometime afternoon/early evening, so DH can go home that night and have L. That way we would only need them mayyyybe an hour or two in the evenings. I don't know why I'm being so bitchy about this!!

So, short answer: Daycare if possible, otherwise my ILs will have her.

@kodybear: We have just started discussing this!

I think my sister should be around and we could call her in the middle of the night and then she could stay at the house overnight if DH couldn't leave for some reason.

I'm more worried about if we go into labor during the day and having to coordinate with someone else to meet up to get a car seat installed in their car for LO#1.

What is everyone's plan for LO#1 during labor? I have no plan as of now. Both of our parents live about 20 min away so most likely we will call them to come over. I'm so hoping I go into labor during the day so LO will be at daycare. I'm afraid at night ppl will be sleeping and not answer their phone! :silly: I know if anything we can just bring her with us. I'm sure that's not ideal tho

Oh man, last night I had my first thought of 'Oh crap, what are we doing?!' Things are going SO well with our little family of 3, and now I'm about to go and change it all up! L is finally to an age where we can leave the house without too much planning and worry. If it just so happens that she can't nap wherever we are, we'll survive. I don't have to bring bottles/food with us because she can eat and drink anything now. She's walking so I don't have to break my back carrying her and a bag and groceries and blah blah blah. Worries about fussy babies, more difficulty getting out of the house... what have I done?!

But then I see pictures of squishy newborn cuteness, and remember how in love I was with my new baby, and I get excited all over again. Sooo much change coming up, and it's going to be crazyyy!

@swurlygurl: I've had a few moments lately where I'm terrified at the thought of a newborn and 18-month old (along with a "what the heck were we thinking  )! So excited, but I know our world is about to be rocked!

@mrskc: Lately I joke about a leash too! DD likes to take off practically running and it is probably only getting worse from here! I pray baby boy likes the Ergo (DD hated it) so I can handle two kids out and about alone.

@swurlygurl: OMG! When you put it like 13 weeks left, it makes me feel sooo nervous! How old is she? It's crazy how fast they change. DS is 19 months and he's changing so much lately. He has recently starting running fast! He can get away from me so quickly now. Maybe I'm going to need a leash for him when this baby comes! haha

I went to this farm with DS and another mom friend and her daughter this week. It was exhausting just keeping up with DS the whole time and my friend was like "now can you imagine doing this with two kids?" I probably looked like a deer in headlights. lol

@swurlygurl: I'm a bit worried too! D is super excited about a baby but she has a lot of demands that usually require specifically mommy or daddy to help her. Or it takes 15 minutes to convince her to do something (like get dressed). Stuff like that won't fly when a newborn is also crying.
