I'm an American but have spent most of the past seven years living in Australia - initially Melbourne (love Aussie Rules so much!), then QLD, and finally Darwin for DH's work as an engineer. You aren't kidding when you say engineering hours are not exactly suited to parents - that was one of the main reasons we left Australia!</p> <p>Will be nice to get to know you and hear about life in Melbourne again. If that makes you feel any better haha also going back full time in my field means lots of interstate travel, long working hours, high levels of stress. Yes there is good pay but childcare costs here are insane. For us to pay for two kids in childcare and me work all the time away from them, get to see them an hour a day at the end of it is not worth it with the money left over which would have only been a few hundred dollars a month. I love spending every day with them, though I would love to have a day off sometimes. You know go to the toilet in peace. Last year we went to Ireland then turkey then back here over 4 weeks and Which I did on my own with a toddler whilst pregnant. 11 flights in total which some were 16 hrs at a time. Was crazy. But we are so far away over here that we have all kind of accepted it. 24 hrs of travelling and thousands of dollars later too haha sounds crazy. </p> <p>My Inlaws always do house swapping and have had amazing houses/mansions that they ve stayed in. People have been so generous to them with their cars etc would highly recommend it. </p>
