HAHAHAHA OMG I have always said that my husband takes at least 5 seconds to respond to anything I say. It drives me insane because he hears it, but he's just slow to respond... and I usually want the answer faster.

With LO, it depends whether what Im asking I of specific interest to her. She will hear "would you like an ice cream" much quicker than "please pick up your toys".

DH, on the other hand, has developed the ability to tune me out and yet appear as though he is listening. I catch him when his generic response doesn't quite fit what I've said and I ask him to clarify (cue wide eyed stare), but I dread to think how often it really happens and I don't realise.

@sunny: Yep, life and conversation is moving fast for SO. I have to slow down for him. Guess we complement each other that way. LO is pretty quick now though. She is a girl though. (I'm sure there are many exceptions to the rule.)

Reality: 10-20 seconds
What it feels like: 20 minutes. I've already moved onto the next thing.

My son has really gotten into reading lately. When he's deep into a book, I've noticed a growing pause between when I speak and when he "hears" what I say. Example:

Me: "When you're done reading your book, can you pick up the floor of your room?"
Son: *say nothing, 4-5 seconds go by. then he looks up at me* "What did you say?"

I think it's karma for being slow myself when my wife talks to me when I'm deep in thought. I can hear the words she is saying, but for some reason I can't process them until I switch gears and focus on her.

Do your kids have a delay in responding to you when you speak to them? How about your SO?
