I understand why you might want to avoid a cluster.

But I say take em when you can get em! I am due right around my birthday, my husband's, my SIL and my MIL and everyone has said "oh good, baby's birthday will fit right in!"

While the chances are low that it would happen, I think it's a valid reason if it feels right to you. Our twins birthday is March 11 and my husband's is March 16. When we started talking about another baby, I absolutely wanted to avoid March. Having three birthday in a week is a lot of planning (and money, even though we don't do huge gifts), so I knew it would be less stressful for our next baby's birthday to not fall in that month.

My family has a ton of July birthday and I was kind of excited my LO was born in July, since it's such a fun month in our family.

But I'm also not territorial about these things. I posted pics on here last month, but we had a joint B-day party for all the July Bdays (and it was LOs first Bday) and I thought it was great.

I think it's not a bad idea to try avoiding a clump. We have a clump and while we don't mind the sharing part, it can get expensive.

DH and LO both have July birthdays, and so do a lot of our family, so I totally get wanting to space the birthdays out. I hope to begin TTC #2 where there is a higher likelihood of hitting a month other than July, but at the same time I won't be able to bring myself to skip a month just for this reason since we did have some issues the first time around. I don't think it's silly at all if it's important to you though!

My family is full of November birthdays so I was excited when my LO was due in December and would have her own month. And then she came a month early, smack in the middle of family birthdays. You really just can't plan these things, but hopefully she'll have fun sharing her birthday month with family.

I totally understand the sentiment - we have 3 nephews, me, my mom, and all three of my siblings in Jan/Feb so it is a pretty crazy time, but now that I am older, I love it because we have one big celebration for all of the adults and it is a ton of fun. We chose not to skip any time because it took so long, but we postponed starting TTC to avoid a late winter baby.

I wouldn't worry about it. My 2nd LO was due just 10 days before LO1's birthday, but she ended up being 3 weeks early, and therefore 10 days after my birthday! You just never know where the chips may land. Good luck whatever you decide!

I had the same exact birthday as my grandma AND my great grandma. And there were 16 birthdays total in my family in October between cousins and aunts/uncles. I love it! I thought it was really special that I shared a birthday with them. And I always liked that we did a big family birthday party every year to celebrate everyone. My cousins who had birthdays in other months rarely had family birthday parties because there was just too many we'd be doing it all the time. But we tended to do one in october bc it covered so many people :)

I felt the same way when I was pregnant with DD. She was due end of May and everyone in DH's fam is born in June..like EVERYONE. Plus my bf and most of my cousins, so I'm surrounded by Gemini's! Don't feel bad about taking a month off if you want, but honestly now that she's here it's not a big deal at all. Now that we're trying for #2 , we were hoping they wouldn't have the same bday month but if all works out this month, their bdays would be days apart! May will just be a really awesome month in our house filled with crazy gemini's

I had my first baby two months before my 37th birthday. If I have a second, I will probably be 39 by the time s/he is born. So, I personally would not bother trying to time things too carefully because I can't "afford" to skip a month.

If I was ten years younger then sure why not exercise a preference?

I think it is fine to skip a month to avoid birthdays, especially since you are just starting to TTC. We are planning to finally start TTC next month (even though I wanted a spring baby) but if we aren't successful we will skip Jan/Feb to avoid the holidays.

I don't think it's a silly reason if it's important to you not to have a lot of close birthdays.

I will say that as someone who was born the day after my moms birthday, with a cousin who shares my moms birthday, sister birthday a week later, I LOVE my familys birthday season. We all have a lot of fun calling each other and wishing happy birthdays, and I felt really special as a kid having a birthday close to everyone. So it can definitely go both ways :)

I think it's really whatever sounds good to you.

My eldest daughter and I share a birthday! Last year we turned 1 and 30 together, and we will turn 21 and 50 in the same day. I love it and am happy to give the main focus of the day to her on years that aren't "big ones". My husband, however, does NOT share my sentiments when it comes to his birthday - he'd prefer to keep his birthday month to himself, and that's fine, too!

I think a bigger "clump" could be frustrating though. My two sisters, brother in law, two nieces, father, father in law, mother in law, grandfather in law, grandmother in law, daughter, and myself all have birthdays in June July and August (plus a bunch iof anniversaries in there as well). It leads to a super busy and expensive summer, so if we go for baby #3 I might try to plan for a fall/winter kiddo.....if the baby fever isn't too intense and I can stand to wait :)

I don't think it's silly at all, we thought about avoiding a December baby because of a huge clump of birthdays and because we always travel to see family that time of year and I felt sort of mean jamming a kids birthday in with that mess. That being said, I doubt I would have when the time came (turns out we are due in October instead) just because I wanted a baby so badly.
