@Mrs Green Grass: The last time I was trying to amp up my supply (before returning to work) and was pumping more frequently was when I got mastitis for the first time.

@78h2o: yeah, I'm pretty lucky. I think it helped that I was pumping + breast feeding since LO was 1 week old (she had to be readmitted), so my supply has always been more than she needs.

Also, that's just my morning session.. I produce 20 oz more in my other 2-3 sessions. I wish I could pump 15 oz. each time.. Then I'd only ave to pump twice a day!

@LaineysMom: in one session? So jealous! I have to pump at least 4-5x to get that amount!

I think I read somewhere that the risk of mastitis decreases the longer you've been nursing? And providing you're emptying the breast frequently the higher supply shouldn't be too much of an issue.

Pumping /nursing more should help prevent mastitis, not increase it. Is there a supplement I don't know about that increases the risk?

@purrpletulips: the only way it tastes decent to me is if I mix it with almond butter (I'm allergic to peanuts). I mix 1 T brewers yeast with 3 T almond butter and a dash of salt then put it on saltines. Unfortunately, almond butter has a crapload of calories so I tried adding 1 T of brewers yeast to a small glass of chocolate milk today.. If you chug it, it's doable.. I've also tried cookies, but meh.. I don't like the taste so eating that many cookies was not very enjoyable + lots of calories.. Bad combo.

I have found that days I eat oatmeal and/or that LO nurses more often, my supply slowly starts to jack itself up on its own. Drinking a tonnn of water helps too - I bought a giant straw bottle thing at target (seriously, it's like a liter!) and make sure I drink it all 1-2x a day.

I have found that for me the only thing that works really well is power pumping and upping my calories. I have tried MMP and mothers milk tea but nothing works better than a few power pumping sessions. I found that the tea worked better for me than the MMP.

@laineysmom: how did you take the brewer's yeast? I tried putting it in my oatmeal but it was so gross I couldn't eat it.

@highwire: I reduced pumping sessions from 4 to 3, but didn't like how much my supply went down, so I started adding 2 T of brewers yeast and 4 bags of Mothers Milk Tea to my diet. After 2 days I was producing as much in 3 pumps as I previously produced in 4. My morning pump session went from 12 oz. to 15 oz. I'll probably go back to pumping 4x just because, but I do like how these two have increased my supply. Good luck!

I had food poisoning or the stomach flu this week. My milk supply is down.

I want to get a lot of nursing and pumping in over the next few days but that is always difficult with the less structured schedule on the weekends. Plus, we will be 4 hours out of town at my in laws all weekend. They are more than happy to let me sleep and hang out with LO but I guess ill have to be more diligent about nursing her this weekend.

And trying to get re hydrated. I am so parched!

Any other advice on ramping up my supply without putting myself at risk for mastitis (because is rather never deal with that ever again)

Guess I should bring my MMP supplements along for the trip.

Ugh. Being sick takes on a whole new level when breastfeeding!
