@Modern Daisy: yep, sounds like the 18 month regression...it was awful. I say do whatever works to get you all some sleep, even if that means bringing him into bed with you or doing what you need to do. It will pass though. I wouldn't want to start my day at 4am though, that's why I'm in the do whatever works at the moment camp.

Just commiserating. My 10 month old was up wide awake at 4 today. I just took him downstairs to play and he passed out in 20 minutes. I have a feeling that might not work on an 18 month old though. I'm sorry! Early wake ups suck!

I feel your pain!!

My LO has never been a great sleeper - like, ever! But we had gotten to the point - after a bit of sleep training lite - where she was going straight to sleep approx half of the nights and STTN perhaps three times a week. But the last couple of weeks..... WOAH! She's 19 months now and we're basically back to the newborns days, waking approx every 4 hours and only going back to sleep if she gets a cup of warm milk and a cuddle....... and 6am is a lie in (she's usually up for the day at 5).

My LO has been doing this for a couple of months--she's 19 months. While I was at my sickest (pregnancy), DH was doing all wakeups and his solution was to give a bottle and cosleep (not always successfully; half the time it would be DH laying in bed trying to sleep, and LO jumping on his head and slapping his face and generally partying).

That doesn't work for me, so this week since I've been feeling slightly better, I've been doing this wakeup and I let her cry about 10 minutes first; then I go in, lay her back down, say night night and leave (10 seconds, in and out). Then she usually screams another 5-10 minutes and then falls back asleep till 5:30-6:00.

This sucks because my alarm goes off at 5:40 every day, so most days by the time her screaming has stopped, I can see my alarm is going off in 20 minutes and I'm just up for the day. =/

Waking up at 4:30 is no good for a pregnant lady, but I'm hoping the "letting her cry" method will get her back to sttn faster. I think this weekend, I'm going to go full CIO and not do the check at all.

My LO also SCREAMS---I mean screams the house down--so I have total sympathy for you.

We also had a terrible sleep regression that hit at 4am when LO was 18 months. The only thing that "worked" was to bring him into bed with us so we could all get another hour or two of sleep.

Eventually we had one good night, one bad night. Now, at 23 months, he has finally outgrown it and sleeps in his own crib until 6-6:30am every night.

hope you are able to find a solution faster than us!

@mrbee: @blackbird: Omg no!!! So this is going to continue?? I've found that when he has a sleep regression usually nothing works and we just have to wait it out. My instinct says to leave him until 6am so we don't "train" him to keep waking us up, but man is he LOUD when he wakes up. He sets off our glassbreak sensor!

And his naps are all over the place. Sometimes 3 hours, others 30 mins. There is no pattern or coorelation. He is in daycare so i rely on what they tell me.

Oh yeah, nasty nasty sleep regression at 18 months. Took about 6 weeks to get over, then like magic, back to sleeping

@Modern Daisy: My son had a sleep regression at 18 months. Eventually we had to re-sleep train

Later he started waking between 4 and 5 am every morning. I fought it for a long time, before I just gave up and started going to bed earlier. Eventually he stopped doing it, thank goodness!!

Is he napping more now that he's getting less sleep at night?

It's been a full week now of this. He wakes up and SCREAMS until we go in there. No sleeping through it. There is nothing wrong, diaper is fine, he's eaten/slept enough the day before, etc. We both work full time and need to sleep so we've been going in there with a bottle just to calm him down, but after about 10 minutes he throws it and continues SCREAMING. This goes on all morning so DH has been dropping him off at daycare even earlier just to get a break. He is totally wild from lack of sleep, throwing tantrums, etc. I almost missed my train yesterday because he was such a handful and it was impossible to get ready for work.

Has anyone else gone through this? How do we stop it? We could try to ignore him until normal wakeup time, but he REALLY SCREAMS so it's mentally and physically draining.
