@autumnlove: that's awful she lectured you. I've forgotten wipes a few times since we use cloth wipes at home.

I get anxious eating out when ds cries. Once my dad insisted in going to a nice place when ds was a few months old and ds cried the whole time. He wouldn't take a bottle or nurse and we all switched off with ds in the lobby/outside while the rest of us ate.

@BabyBoecksMom: vodka cranberries are my favorite!

My most awkward moment was when LO was about a week old and we were at the hospital for a follow up appt. She had a huge poopie blowout so I went into the bathroom to change her but I forgot to pack baby wipes. The safety strap on the bathroom changing table was missing so I couldn't strap her in and I didn't want to put the soiled diaper back on. When the next person( older grandma type) walked into the restroom, I asked her to stand by LO while I scrambled to the other side of the bathroom to wet paper towels. The lady gave me a stern talk about how I need to be more prepared and how her granddaughter never forgets to stock her diaper bag, etc. I felt like a loser! ;-)

Those test strips are wonderful. No more guessing! But if I've had more than one drink, I usually wait at least 4 hours before I even try to nurse her (and give her a bottle instead).

When I started this post I thought there would be more sharing of other awkward mom moments - no?

@regberadaisy: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Milkscreen-Home-Test-Alcohol-Breast/dp/B0018LRDIM/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1333286200&sr=8-1

Though really, you weren't doing anything wrong @BabyBoecksMom: The best time to have a drink is while you're feeding because it gives you the greatest amount of time for the alcohol to metabolize before the next feeding. And one drink isn't really enough to be a problem. I've read that a good rule of thumb is that if you've had too much to drive, you've had too much to breastfeed.

@regberadaisy: Yup! They are called Milkscreen and I've even seen them sold at Target! I don't drink, so I personally do not have experience with them though.

@BabyBoecksMom:
I wouldn't have thought anything of it. Assuming it'll take a while to travel through your system into the breast milk. I would assume you knew when before her next feeding it's OK to drink. :)

@bluestriped bee:
What test strips??? Is there a way to see if there's alcohol content in the breastmilk?
I've been wondering if there's a time frame prior to BFing that is safe to drink. I'm not really a liqour drinker but man a ice cold corona with lime and a margarita is sound really good.

Maybe the waitress didn't realize you were doing anything wrong. I didnt know about those alcohol test strips until I came here to HB. I still have a lot to learn when I get pregnant.

So we went out to a sports bar tonight with friends... I was breastfeeding LO one last time before she fell asleep for the night. While I was breastfeeding her, I ordered a cranberry vodka. It wasn't until after the waitress left that I realized how bad that looked. Oops!

What's your awkward moment?
