LO is 3 and has seen them every year starting a 2 months old. She loves them, but DHs family is a huge fireworks family, so it's not a surprise.

@regberadaisy: I guess we haven't been that close to them for the sound to be that loud? I have found that the city displays (suburban city) sound more like thunder, and maybe not even that loud.

B fell asleep during fireworks (15 months) and E was totally fascinated (13 months). N will almost be a year old and I bet she won't like them.

Fireworks scared me until I was 10 haha so I'm surprised my kids do so well with them!

There were "surprise" fireworks at an event we went to earlier this year. DD was 3 months and slept through them completely.

E was 4 months old. DH wore her and she was entranced by the pretty colours. A year later, we took her again (16 months) and she loved them! She was pointing into the sky and saying"wow" for days!

My son is terrified of them...we were at a show and they shot some off and my son just lost it. I was unprepared for them as well, so I get it was largely the surprise.

It's making me question what to do for the 4th of July.

@regberadaisy: yeah my baby never would have slept through the noise and excitement. So we have not been. She might be able to stay up this year but we live in a big city so the fireworks are a huge event, not something I'm going to bring an almost 2 year old too. Maybe if there was a little show somewhere local she could handle it. I'm ok with missing it for a few more years and just celebrating the day.

We took D last year at 28 monyhs and h turned into a complete crazy person about an hour before they started and wouldn't sit still during. We had to get up. But I would probably still do it over again. With a baby I would be even more likely to stay out. I would just try to put Lo down at normal bedtime.

Took DD1 at 8 months and planning on taking DD2 at 3 months. The baby can always just sleep, like she does anywhere and everywhere!

How old was your LO the first time you took them to see fireworks?

This is the first year where LO's bedtime is late enough for fireworks. And the first year I don't think she will be scared by them! Butttt baby sister will only be 10m and I'm thinking she is probably too young. She gets pretty cranky if she's up past her bedtime so fireworks doesn't seem worth it to deal with that. Maybe I should just have DH take her and I stay home with the baby?
We have decent fireworks very nearby so they wouldn't really have to camp out too long beforehand.
