@Mrs. Jacks: I'll have to search for that post! Thanks!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: @NovBaby1112: Interesting!

@photojane: I'm pretty sure you are right. At least DH is convinced I don't need to worry yet. :p

I'm with @googly-eyes... everything in moderation! At 8 weeks she is just attracted to the light and colors... she has no idea what's going on! Letting her look at the TV won't ruin her, I promise. :)

My lo used to love staring at the tv but isn't so interested now at 7 months. The whole deal with the tv is that it prevents interaction. I think everything in moderation is ok, personally.

My LO is 4 months but has been drawn to TV and screens in general since for a while now. Once he started paying attention, I also turned them off. I'll still use my tablet or phone online while nursing him, but he can't see them because they're behind him, and I only do it because its easier to hold than a book and if I interact with him too much while nursing he gets distracted and won't eat (he just wants to smile at me instead, the cutie!). He looks at toys, things around the room, his hands and feet, me, and other people. Like Mrs. Sketchbook, I usually interact with him most of the day, either playing or wearing him to get things done. If he fusses I shush, rock, sing, or nurse to calm him. I do listen to 1-2 podcasts per day (~20 minutes each) if I need background noise. If he's really fussy we go outside and walk around. He loves that!

@shopaholic: at that age he spent chill time in his bouncer looking up at the bird mobile or under his play gym looking up at the toys.

My LO was never into TV. She didn't start watching until 20 months. I'm glad.... as much as it would have been nice to get a break every once in a while, I know it's healthier for her to not have the tv.

@shopaholic: my LO was really drawn to the TV as a newborn, and we had it on the majority of the day. However, I did read a study that said constant background noise can negatively affect language development, so after reading that we shut it off all of the time while she was awake, especially as she became more aware and what not. Occasionaly, we will turn it on for 5 mins and she watches this baby development channel if i need to get ready or something, but i really try to limit it.

I think it's definitely the lights. My son is currently 11 weeks, but I noticed him doing the same thing at about 7 or 8 weeks. What I decided to do was buy an activity gym that has flashing lights since I know that's something he enjoys looking at.

Sometimes if I notice he's staring at the tv too much I'll try a different activity. I break out a book, "Brown Bear, Brown Bear" has been one of his favorites, again bright colors. We also have been going outside more, the wind and the sunshine have been equally stimulating.

@shopaholic: as far as sleep goes, eventually I think the projector mobile started to bother him, especially when he'd wake up at night. So we kinda had to cut that one out for sleep's sake!

During the day, he pretty much wants always to be interacted with unless he's in the bouncer, then he's usually good for like, 30 mins!

@Mrs. Sketchbook: @scg00387: So what do your LOs look at and how do they stay calm? K will "zombie out" staring at the wall and one of her hanging toys in the swing.

Ours was drawn in too so I decided to go cold turkey-- no TV on and no projector mobile either-- it seems like a gateway drug IMO! The past few days I've had Pandora streaming through my TV and it has the album art floating around the screen. At first he was interested, but he lost interest quickly. I want him to learn to dance so I guess it is a trade off@

J was the same way. He'd stare at it after nursing and it was a break from his constant crying so I went with it ;) not all the time, but I think everything is fine in moderation. Except crack. That's whack.

@shopaholic: omg, R loves the TV. If she is super fussy sometimes it is the only thing that calms her down. She loses interest after a while so I don't worry too much about it.

My LO loved the TV too! I would let him watch it for a little while because it gave me a break! It was nice, but soon enough it became boring to him especially as he got older and more mobile, he had no interest in the TV!

K is 8 weeks old and seems to LOVE looking at the TV! It's been noticeable the past couple of weeks, and as she has been getting a little bit easier this week to put down in the bouncer chair for more than a few minutes. I feel so guilty, but she will stay calm the longest if she can see the TV! Even when we hold her, she always turns her head towards the TV! I never wanted to be a parent who lets the TV "babysit", and scared she's developing a bad habit, but DH says she's just drawn to the light.

What do you guys think? Is she too young? Should I turn the TV off? We usually have it on, for at least background noise.
